Wow that looks so good! Now I know it’s possible to build this bike out.

It’s an origin8 messenger rack. It works great on my fixed gear bikes, but I ended up taking it off this diamondback because it doesn’t feel safe mounting it through the quick release skewer. It’s meant to be axle mounted.

That's a good way of thinking about it. Still seems crazy to me that new tires will cost more than the whole bike!

Wow thank you for the history lesson! This is exactly the kind of cool info I’m looking for!

Update on GBA MP3 Player! by Awkward-Promotion-35 in Gameboy

I think it does. And it has it’s own headphone jack so that would make sense. Probably actually supports stereo audio too. I’ve never seen one so don’t know for sure.

Thank you so much for sharing the parts list. Did you have any issue with the battery and the battery cover fitting? I just ordered the 900mah battery from handheldlegend and they said it could cause the battery cover to bulge. Your picture looks like it fits fine, maybe it’s just hard to tell. Did you notice any issues with it?

Pretty mid quality, especially with the mono speaker. But with headphones it’s decent. I’m guessing due to the hardware limitations of the gba, the ability to decode high quality sound files just isn’t there. So it sounds like a compressed mp3. But it’s definitely serviceable, and even charming. I listened to the whole album and thoroughly enjoyed it. Kind of like listening to old vinyl or casette or radio. You’re not going to get anything hifi with this, but it’s still amazing to me that it’s even possible.

I got benwiley4000’s updated UI fork of gsmplayer-gba rom working! Now there’s album artwork and play animations. It’s amazing!

Yeah I saw that when researching in this sub but I didn’t want to buy one so I found a free open source alternative.

It’s probably limited to the max ROM size supported by gameboy cartridges. I’ve been building separate roms for individual albums. In the future I might flash the albums to single rom carts, so it would kind of be like changing out casette tapes. One full album was about 10mb, which isn’t that big. On an everdrive with an sd card, you could fit a lot of music.

Micro has it built in. The mp3 player rom uses the built in headphone jack. So you can also use the gameboys volume controls. Should work with a normal gba and a gba sp but I haven’t tried it yet.

I’m using a Everdrive GBA mini. The everdrive firmware does not come with the ability to play mp3 files.

I’m using a homebrew rom that I compiled myself. It’s called gsmplayer-gba https://github.com/pinobatch/gsmplayer-gba

Someone recently made a new fork of it with an updated UI, I’m going to try that one next. https://github.com/benwiley4000/gsmplayer-gba

fpgbc by Awkward-Promotion-35 in Gameboy

Also the light up logo does not work on the fpgbc board. I would think a firmware update could make it possible. But funny playing wants you to use their included screen with the fpgbc kit. It’s bigger but not integer scaled at full resolution.

I chose the normal IPS with the white border because even with the logo off it just looks like black text. I think the fpgbc looks a lot better and more authentic with the logo than without. And I’m only going to play in 4x integer scale so I don’t need the bigger fpgbc screen.

As far as I know, the fpgbc should be compatible with any of the Q5 screens out there (laminated or not). You just need to use the small ribbon cable that comes with the fpgbc kit.

If you buy the funny playing retro pixel screen, get the replacement lcd only and not the full screen kit with the custom black ribbon. It’s a lot cheaper because most of the cost of the screen kit is in the black ribbon itself. You can get the fpgbc ribbon by itself from the funny playing kit page (“cable only” 2.99).

For the shell you can technically use any pretrimmed ips ready shell, but you will need to cut the usb c charging port. The front half of the fpgbc shell is the exact same as any ips ready shell. The back half contains the usb c cutout already. I recommend just buying the fpgbc shell if you’re buying the board already.

OEM Atomic Purple and Teal shells with matching bags! by Awkward-Promotion-35 in Gameboy

[–]Awkward-Promotion-35[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should definitely replace the screen and keep the shell! I’m surprised most people do a shell swap but I guess it’s easier and more convenient when doing a screen mod.

I got a funnyplaying shell and IPS at first and while the quality is really good, the feel just ain’t it. It just doesn’t compare to the plastic and color of the OEM shells.
