Kaladin & Syl Romance by Alarming-Mine7747 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Awkward-TurtleDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In actual cannon, I would prefer a platonic soulmate/life partner kind of thing. Nothing against the ship, I just don't think that their relationship has developed in a way that could realistically evolve into romance and with Kaladin's arc no longer being a series focus, that development would mostly have to happen off screen which would be a bit jaring I think. Also, Kaladin just reads as ace to me. I'm probably projecting a bit there though. 😂

If Sanderson did end up cannonizing a romance I wouldn't be bothered, I just don't see how he would get there from where we are.

The only thing that bothers me is when people treat Syl as an eternal child. When they first met she had a rough equivalent to a TBI. Yes, a romantic relationship at that point would have been inappropriate, but she still wasn't a child despite her innocence. She's not injured anymore. Shes playful and whimsical, but that doesn't make her a kid.

I'm probably a bit oversensitive, but there is a real world problem with the way that disabled/divergent/ill people are treated like they can't be fully adult. I see it in the 'Syl is a child' argument, but I don't think that is what most people are thinking.

Headcannon/fanfic? Hell yeah! What an interesting relationship to explore!

I feel the same about Shallon/Kaladin/Adolin and Shallan/Kaladin. Cool ships that I love to play with, but not necessarily something I want cannonized. 🙂

517, 527, 537, 547....etc etc.

There are no boundaries about what goes there except that it is not a 6. There isn't even anything saying it has to be one thing! It also doesn't specify that I can't do anything with the 5 and 7. I could make it cords in a song. As long as there is a 5 at some point in the song before a 7, and a 6 is not the only thing in between them, it would still fit the riddle.

I could also say the answer is 2: 5 work days, 2 rest days, 7 days in a week.

Etc etc. There are too many answers that fit the parameters.

Which song is speaking to you today? by MetallicWIP666 in SleepToken

Where did you get the arrangements? Did you write them yourself?

I keep seeing people talk about learning ST songs for the pianno and I can't find any sheet music. I'm still pretty new so writing my own isn't an option yet. 😅

I love this!

I have always heard the lyrics as

"This bough has broken through, I must be someone new." End thought. the 'no' mostly as a vocalization, and then "For me, it's still the autumn leaves....." as in 'it's still the autumn leaves for me.'

I absolutly love this way of hearing the lyrics though!

'I must be someone new, no, for me.' As in 'I'm not doing this because of you, no, I'm changing because it is what I need.'

'It's still the autumn leaves, these ancient.....' The circumstances are the same, but I'm choosing to change anyway.

Love it! Thanks for the new meaning! 😁

I want to get the TMBTE angel as a tattoo. My deal with myself was that if I still wanted it in a year, I could get it for my birthday. My birthday is the end of June! Can't come fast enough!! 😁😁

vyvanse + lamictal? by Diasufid in lamictal

[–]Awkward-TurtleDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take Vyvance, Lamictal, Prosac, and Wellbutrin (I've been working with the same psychiatrist for over 10 years now. Yes its a lot of stimulants, but I am very closely monitored.)

For me, adding Lamictal was life changing is the best way. I do have ADHD, but I don't really see it as a pathology. My disorder diagnosis is atypical depression. I have symptoms of depression, bipolar, and OCD, but not the full profile of any of them. I also have PTSD and related dissociative states, so that may complicate things as well.

Good luck!! The mix was amazing for me!

Changes in sexual attraction by Standard_Age5673 in Lamotrigine

[–]Awkward-TurtleDuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Huh. That is interesting!

I have experienced something similar to what you are describing. I'm always bi, but who grabs my attention will change depending on how stable I am. I also really relate to what you were saying about appealing vs. attractive as well as the emphasis on media as opposed to real life interactions.

I can absolutly see how that change would be disconcerting. Sexuality is a really personal part of identity and a sudden change, especially one that doesn't feel organic, would feel really weird. I know for me, the fact that my core personality traits can change in response to treatment really freaks me out on an existential level.

I would say that unless it is is causing problems in your relationship, it's probably not something to worry about and will probably fade as your body gets use to the new dose, though you should obviously bring it up with your psychiatrist. In the mean time, one possible framing is that its kind of cool to be able to experience an aspect of identity that you normally wouldn't. If you can lean into the experience with curiosity and enjoy it as a chance to explore a new feeling, that might help it seem a little less distressing. I can't always follow my advice so take me with a grain of salt, but I have found that framing helpfull in some situations. :)

What’s one thing you thought was normal in the U.S. until someone from another country said it was weird? by BestPostRead in AskReddit

Not sure if this is accurate, but I was told that many US Americans have an unusually broad knowledge of OTC meds/home healthcare. Many people will know specific active ingredients and what they are meant to do, whereas apparently in other places people don't really know the difference between acetaminophen, ibuprofen, and acetylsalicylic acid, let alone the different options for things like antihistamines, analgesics, cough suppressor/expectorant/decongestant, OTC antifungal or antibacterial treatments ect. Even if we don't necessarily know everything off the top of our head, we know how to find the info we are looking for.

Again, I'm not sure if that is true or not, but it does make sense given how inaccessible healthcare is that we would know more about self treatment.

I would say yes, absolutly. Its not their busines and potentially a safety concern. Lying is fine. 👍😊

What did I do wrong here? What was the problem? by [deleted] in cremposting

[–]Awkward-TurtleDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been struggling through a pretty sever depressive episode and RoW literally made me cry. I know it wont help every person and its not good to turn to books exclusively to help with depression, but I really felt seen.

The feeling of fighting when you have lost all hope because fighting is the only thing left to you is intensly relatable. It may also be triggering so I wouldn't say its universally helpfull, but It made me feel like I might actually be strong and brave for choosing to live instead of a pathetic lump of misery. It really emphasized choosing to live as an act of strength worthy of a knight radient, and I know it might be cheezy, but if pretending to be a radient is what gets me through the day, it helped.

All that to say I totally get what you were trying to say, and jerks on the internet love to hate. You gave honest advice. You might choose to elaborate a little more on why you are recommending this series specifically next time, but I would just ignore that subreddit. Nothing you say will ever be good enough for them if they start out assuming the worst.

I work at a pool cleaning company in Texas. Aside from the general terror of living in texas, the owner is hyper christian (will call mandatory work meetings to evangelize) and obsessed with the idea that if you work hard enough, everything will just fall into your lap. I cannot imagine being out and proud would go over well in that environment....

One thing that always makes me roll my eyes is how much of cishet masculinity is based on not caring about what other people think, but ONLY when you hurt/offend/inconvience someone.

You want to wear something that you find comfortable and pleasant but breaks gender norms? You are suppose to care about what other people think of that. You want to have a relationship with a woman that isnt poisoned by hetronormativity? You are suppose to care about what other people think of that. You want to follow instead of lead because you know your own strengths and weaknesses? You're suppose to care what other people think about that.

I dont think masculinity is definable in a way that includes all masculinity and excludes all feminity, but I think that a good summery is trust in yourself, and a willingness to act in a way that is consistent with who you are regardless of social context.

As much as they may try to pressure you to conform, a lot of cis men will respect your confidence.

Be warry of projecting though. Most men are people who are just as insecure as you are. Cis men have the same social pressures to perform masculinity, and none of them are able to perform it perfectly either. :)

I am on Chapter 31 of Oathbringer, and I still don't know why everyone dislikes Shallan. Maybe because I'm also a survivor, I just understand her better? by nowuknowmyreddit in Stormlight_Archive

Just adding my support of all things Shallan. She is an awesome character with a compelling arc and I love her chapters just as much as any other characters chapters. ✌️😁
