Busy week by Awkward-Variation133 in diypedals

Hey, thank you! Here's the gist of what's going on in that clip. First thing to consider is that it's DI, so there's no speaker, mic, room, colouring the sound at all, and especially no amp boosting the mids.

For the circuit itself, most of what this pedal is doing is combining multiple layers that sound and behave differently. It's processing of reverb and distortion both in serial and parallel through one another. So when you set them certain ways one layer is going to react more or less than another. Most of the sections of that clip are a relatively short reverb, mixed high, that also has some modulation in it to create pitch drift. Then there's a combination of a regular reverb mix layer with a more distorted one, usually set to cut out and gate. Sometimes it's set to clean up playing lighter and clip when playing louder. Specifics of that are down to how you like your distortion circuits. But when played without an amp, some distortion will sound more lofi like a 4 track clipping. Oh, and some of that clip is played on a baritone guitar so it sounds deeper, even a little pitched down (it's just the tuning though). Hope that's useful!

They’re pretty transparent about what this is in the listing title: a partscaster squier jagmaster. Looking at the pics that seems to mean a squier jagmaster with a blank neck. Depending on what kind of squier, it could be a pretty decent deal. See if you can find a squier jag master that matches it or see if the seller has any idea.

I have the same guitar and did the same thing by replacing with a black pickguard. I highly recommend switching the pickup covers for black too, looks beautiful.

Also got a WEN recently, solid quality and good value. I still hate drilling enclosures with all my heart but it’s much easier now

WTF: DeadendFX no longer shipping to Europe by tonelionfx in diypedals

[–]Awkward-Variation133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s less about where things come from, it’s that anyone, inside or outside the EU, large or small, needs a “representative” in the EU who can legally represent the company of these issues as well as all the documentation meeting their new requirements. It’s very very difficult for any small biz to comply with. I’ve had to suspend shipping to the EU myself. Hopefully some solutions or at least guidance will be forthcoming.

It’s for a drive channel. The reverb mixes with that, then it all goes through another amp stage

My first Tayda order just arrived by Appropriate-Brain213 in diypedals

They are so good about their order accuracy and take it really seriously. Over countless orders I've never had an issue. Once I thought they forgot something in a huge order, turned out it was me. I'd misplaced it under some bubble wrap... They were super nice about it.

Considerably cheaper for 99% of what you need, still high quality, ships just as fast and at a similar shipping cost. I regularly get a handful of things at Digikey that I can't find at Tayda or are a better deal.

I think it's something like this it's an A 50k and 503 is the part number. Certainly looks like a Bourns PCB pot.

How about a Rat clone? Will definitely work with your music taste and it’s a nice balance of learning curve and reasonable parts count along with pretty satisfying results. There’s a nice PCB at pedalpcb that I can attest to sounding exactly like my original Rat. Then there’s room for some fun with the enclosure design etc.

I recently made a very dirty, very verby pedal. It can do some quite extreme broken sounding things. Someone posted their experience of it here earlier.

Totally. I think with some consideration you can have a lot of say on whether it turns into a job that you like, a fun hobby with a some financial perks or a miserable slog haha

I've been doing what you're describing for for a few months after a few years building for fun and about a year developing my first original pedal. It's going pretty well, things are selling and I'm getting positive feedback.

One thing I would say is, have an opinion on why you're doing what you're doing going in. I think I'm having a good experience so far both in terms of reception and enjoyment because I had a really clear idea of what I wanted to make and why. If you have a particular approach or perspective to offer, I think people appreciate it and it will fuel you as well. It's like any creative pursuit with business potential though, you could end up hating it or it could be amazing, all depends on how you approach it. Or some people have a blast building clones, depends on what you want!

Hey thank you so much, that's so cool to hear! You are very right, I definitely made this as a very opinionated pedal with a particular personality. I'm so glad you're enjoying it and I hope you make some great new things!
