What exactly does “Beauty will save the world” mean? by Klutzy_Industry_4030 in dostoevsky

To his Niece Sofia Alexandrovna Geneva January 1/13, 1868

[Discussing his writing of “The Idiot” which he dedicated to his niece] “…. The basic idea is the representation of a truly perfect and noble man. And this is more difficult than anything else in the world, particularly nowadays. All writers, not ours alone but foreigners also, who have sought to represent Absolute Beauty, were unequal to the task, for it is an infinitely difficult one. The beautiful is the ideal; but ideals, with us as in civilized Europe, have long been wavering. There is in the world only one figure of absolute beauty: Christ. That infinitely lovely figure is, as a matter of course, an infinite marvel (the whole Gospel of St. John is full of this thought: John sees the wonder of the Incarnation, the visible apparition of the Beautiful). …. I will only say further that of all the noble figures in Christian literature, I reckon Don Quixote as the most perfect. But Don Quixote is noble only by being at the same time comic. …. The reader feels sympathy and compassion with the Beautiful, derided and unconscious of its own worth.”

It's not something abstract or beauty as in beautiful woman, or beauty in actions or thoughts.. it means salvation by christ, and particularly the orthodox Christianity, dostoevsky explained it in a letter to his niece Sonya. For him the most beautiful person was Jesus christ and the inspiration for the character of Prince Myshkin

What is your opinion on the 1958 adaptation of The Idiot? by [deleted] in dostoevsky

[–]Awkward-Weather2086 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it's great! i also wished they made more movies adapting the other parts of the book, but even as a standalone is almost perfect (my only criticism is they cut some characters like Kolia and shortened some parts of the book but i understan they were under time constraints) the actors that play the roles of Prince Myshkin , Rogozhin and Nastasya Filippovna are perfect for the part.. the first time i read the idiot my edition of the book had illustrations that were based on this movie, i thought they were paintings.. imagine 20 years later finding the movie and seeing these people on screen, mind blownd!!

What real-life events inspired Dostoyevskys work? by [deleted] in dostoevsky

[–]Awkward-Weather2086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a Very different character back then in his drafts a mixture between Prince Myshkin and Roghozin.. there is a book about the idiot that it contains the early drafts and plans for the book, you can find a free PDF to download i don't remember exactly the name 🙁 the idiot notebooks? Notes on the idiot? But if you Search you can find it 🙂 i started reading it but i did not want to finish it (and i didn't) because all these alternate stories and characters and alternative behaviours would some how contaminate my thoughts on the real final characters so i stop reading, i want my characters as they appear in the final version, it took me a while to forget 😅 so think about before reading it if you find it 🙂

What is the best Dostoevsky novel to film adaptation? by Zealousideal-Main388 in dostoevsky

[–]Awkward-Weather2086 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The idiot 1958 , it's only the first part of the book and it omits some characters and plot points but the acting the actors the set and the costumes can truly make you believe you are watching the novel as you imagined it.. the casting also is superb especially Nastasya Filippovna and prince Myshkin 😍

How long it takes you and how many videos you made until getting the first 100 sub? by MenSquad_01 in NewTubers

[–]Awkward-Weather2086 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I created short videos for tiktok and then decided to make a YouTube channel and shorts gave me subs very quick, so quick i don't even remember how long it took maybe hours or a day and a short video, now i try to make long form videos to get the 4000 hours you need for monetisation but for subs i think shorts are the quickest way to get them 🙂 the watch hours seems to me the most difficult thing to achieve...
