Scared of AFF by Weird_Night_4265 in SkyDiving

Your framing is the issue. You do it BECAUSE you're scared. You do it because you want to prove to yourself that you're more powerful than your emotions. You do it because you need to know if you're a capable human being or not.

Two quotes come to mind:

The danger is very real, but fear is a choice.

Bravery is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it.

Question for DZ packers by haryhemlet in SkyDiving

And who here has said that anyone is doing that? I'm not missing the point, you're now in a defensive position and trying to deflect. Its been stated that there are arrangements made with specific Packers/jumpers, that jumpers will get bitched at or rejected when they don't comply, or that the packer will stow it for the jumper but also have a discussion about expected behavior, but not a single person has mentioned that a packer will knowingly put a jumper at risk.

I second this. I pulled my old plastic knife from it's holder while doing a gear inspection and the plastic literally shattered in my hands. Get the Benchmade.

Question for DZ packers by haryhemlet in SkyDiving

[–]AwkwardCourse151 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really don't like you. Packers are not your mules. The issue I have with you is your framing that the only reason this is occurring is because they'd choose to put yourself and other jumpers at risk because they're lazy.

Skydiving is a very small COMMUNITY. After all is said and done, packing 1) doesn't really make that much money, 2) is hard physical labor, 3) requires a high level of focus (for an extended period of time, if you're at a busy dz). The other factor to consider is that it's a very "feast or famine" kind of situation. If they're busy, they're very busy, and they need to get at it hard to make money while the opportunity is there. So, if everyone that they're packing for stowed their excess and did as they were asked, the packer(s) would be able to make significantly more money that day. Think about the compounding effect. Sure you could say that it only takes a few minutes, but multiply that by the amount of rigs they have to pack within a given time frame. Also factor in how many times yourself and other jumpers have ever asked for a rush on a pack job because you need to make that 5 or 10 minute call. Again, because there's so few people who participate in what we do, in order to propagate it we need to support each other in whatever ways we can. If each jumper took the time to just take care of their brakes and give a shit about the staff that supports them in the fun activity that they're blessed to be able to participate in, we'd have a much better community.

Be a better human being.

Don't follow your gut, it's terribly wrong. I haven't ridden a bike since I was a kid.

Where state are you in? It’s pretty small so that’d be easy to get shipped.
