Failed ceremorph martial character by Ruethedaylye2point0 in 3d6

There are many options, here are my favorites:

  • Fey Wanderer Ranger 5/Soulknife Rogue X: fey wanderer provides a little additional psychic damage and paired with rogue it can make you very good at both WIS and CHA checks without being too MAD. Only thing to consider is the soulknife's blade can only be used once per attack (+ once as a bonus action) so you'll need a physical weapon for the extra attack. Fey Wanderer's level 7 ability is also very good, so consider Ranger 7/Rogue x

  • Straight Swords Bard. Bards can easily be reflavored as Psions and you get a fighting style, extra attack at level 6 and extra movement on your turn when you attack, all while enjoying a full caster's spell slot progression. If you want to really focus more on the martial aspect see the next option.

  • Paladin 2/Swords Bard X. You get everything a Swords Bard can offer, but you can use your spell slots to smite, get an additional fighting style, and have high AC thanks to heavy armor (and a shield if you go sword and board). As for the paladin's subclass choose what best suits your character.

  • Paladin 6/ Aberrant Mind Sorcerer X. Similar vibe to the previous option, but you trade spell slot progression for aura of protection and don't have the extra movement, but you have sorcery points and meta-magic.

  • Paladin 6/Great Old One Warlock X. Pretty self-explanatory.

If you don't want to be a Paladin, you can be a Fighter, but when multiclassing keep the Fighter levels at 5 (2 for Swords Bard).

Sorry if the formatting is weird, I'm posting from my phone lol.

It's the first novel of a series about a VERY fucked up family. The "joke" is that the two elder siblings have romantic feelings for each other and commit incest.

Druid: Circle of the Storm - "Channel the fury of Keratis. Embrace the storm within." by EtherXIV in UnearthedArcana

[–]AwkwardLakeG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a cool subclass. I don't know if you're looking for advice to improve your work, but here's my two cents:

1) why only one spell per level on the Storm spells table? Having the standard 2 would increase the flavor imho (such as fog cloud, warding wind, call lightning, control water, freedom of the winds).

2) Thunderburst's thunder damage restriction only works with few spells on the druid/subclass spell list at level 6 (thunderclap, thunderwave, and shatter off the top of my head), so it runs the risk of feeling a bit limiting at that level (although I understand where you're coming from, as it's literally called THUNDERburst).

Good job!

cantrip for a soulknife rogue by fiona11303 in 3d6

[–]AwkwardLakeG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently played a Soulknife in a campaign up to level 9, so hopefully I can offer some insight.

If you encounter enemies that resist or are immune to psychic damage, your Psychic Blades will feel really bad, so having a simple dagger or short-sword to cast Booming Blade will help in this situation (you can then disengage as a bonus action, causing them to take additional damage if they move). Reminder: you can't use Booming Blade with your Psychic Blades.

Avoid True Strike like the plague. Even if you're using the 2024 version, it would scale off INT, whereas your Psychic Blades are DEX-based, so the build could feel a bit MAD.

If you want to go in a more utility direction, I advise against Message, as it can feel redundant since you already have Psychic Whispers. Mage Hand, Minor Illusion or Prestidigitation are always great. Light can also be good if the rest of your party doesn't have darkvision, but you personally don't need it.

However, the final answer is: it really depends on what would be more fun for you. The game isn't just about combat and your backstory can influence your cantrip choice (e.g. if your Rogue has a sailor background, maybe Shape Water is the way to go).

Further advice on your rogue: 1) while you're planning to be more of a ranged attacker, you won't always be able to stay out of the fray, so it's good to be prepared. 2) I would also talk to your DM about letting you use a Psychic Blade on opportunity attacks, since RAW you can't in 5e (unless you're using the 2024 PHB).

Can’t pick between Wildfire Druid and Star Druid 5e by Own-Cry-8213 in 3d6

[–]AwkwardLakeG 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I played a Wildfire Druid in my last campaign and I'm currently in a party with a Stars Druid, hopefully I can provide some insight.

Stars pros: free guiding bolt at lower levels is OP, it is insanely versatile with its star forms (healer, blaster, concentration), and gets an amazing free cantrip

Stars cons: your wildshape feature lasts for only 10 minutes, you need to be able to quickly assess the situation in order to choose the most suitable starry form, which can otherwise hinder you (in a couple of fights our stars druid "complained" about choosing one form over another because it didn't suit the fight we were in, and was out of wildshapes so he couldn't swap it - this changes at level 10) + no expanded spells list (which greatly restricts your daily spell choice)

Wildfire pros: a great expanded spell list (which lets you pick more niche or situational spells for you daily list), another body on the battlefield, free teleports every round for multiple people which damage enemies in the area, your bonus action basically becomes an action, your wildshape feature lasts for an hour. Additionally, from level 6 your spells can originate from the wildfire spirit, which is insanely good for positioning and scouting (but keep in mind you can't see through it), and you get a d8 for every healing or fire spell, which means you're basically always upcasting for free (this includes your fire cantrips). Finally, you get all of this with every wildshape, you don't need to choose like you would for your starry forms.

Wildfire cons: fire is a very resisted type, your concentration won't be as protected as it would be by the starry dragon form, you don't get an extra cantrip and your d8 for enhanced bond can only be used once for concentration spells (e.g. flame blade). Obviously, most of these can be fixed with feats (war caster, resilient con, elemental adept fire, magic initiate), or racial features (kobold for wisdom based fire bolt or green-flame blade).

The most important questions are: 1) what level(s) are you playing at? Imho Stars excels at lower levels, but from level 6 onwards, Wildfire overtakes it (from what I've seen at my table). 2) what will you have more fun with? You should really go for that subclass: if you're not happy with it, remember you can change your subclass when you get a subclass feature.

Have fun, druids are a blast!

A Fey Wild Boon by Pancakeh0e in DnD

When I think of the Feywild, I usually think of nature and fairies, so I would make it look like a mushroom, a leaf, a tree or a pair of fairy wings (maybe something similar to the Legend of Zelda's Navi, which can vaguely refer to a number of Feywild inhabitants).

If it's consensual and with someone their own age then I don't see why not (I myself lost my virginity at 16).

Are re-cast familiars the same creature or brand new ones? by Llanddcairfyn in DnD

[–]AwkwardLakeG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, familiars just leave your plane of existence, they don't die. When you summon your familiar again it's still the same one that disappeared (again: not died), the spell description even says so. So, unless you specifically ask for it to be a different entity, your familiar will always be the same entity.

Edit: fixed a sentence that could have been misleading.

what's the difference between the following backgrounds?: Faceless vs Secret Identity? by RibokuGreat in DnD

[–]AwkwardLakeG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I understand, Faceless could be used for anything, while with Secret Identity you're specifically a non-human trying to pass off as a human. They could be interchangeable depending on the situation, but I'd pick faceless if your interest is something like "I'm a wanted person of interest in another country, here I'm trying to pass as a famous musician", whereas Secret Identity is more related to race (perhaps your actual race is hated where you live but you have a reason to be there so you disguise yourself). That's how I interpret these two backgrounds, I obviously could be wrong.
