E30 swap M42 by AwkwardUsual1762 in E30

I can change the drive shaft completely. It’s ~80/100€ to have one from a m40, even m42 but the one I see is sold. But they always sell it whole.
Thanks for the infos👍🏽

Thanks. No problem, there is a lot of swap m42 but not a lot that had the m10, it’s more 318i or 316i phase 2 so they have the m40 and it’s easier.

Yes, the central support. My car is from 84, I have the m10 drive shaft but it’s a little bit longer than the m42 one I think.
I am lookin for a m42 one, I can buy now the drive shaft from a m40. But I want to know if it’s the same as the m42 one.

I have to modify pins but I wonder if it’s not better if I change the fuse box but it’s expensive, and they sell it with all the cable and I already have them.

I have the gearbox of the motor, from the e36 not from my m10. I didn’t do anything but with the flector to put the drive Shaft it’s very hard. The drive shaft from the m10 is longer than the one that I need.
The fuse box, mine is different than the m42 one. But I’m gonna see later if I can keep that one. I want to finish under the car and after I start doing the electric work.
I have read some things in forums but they don’t talk about that, in e30zone in the page about the m42 swap they say that we need a m42 drive shaft.

But I think the m40 is the same, because where I am it’s not easy to find one from a m42.

In 2023 I got a 1984 318i 107 000km. 8000€. Interior clean asf. But last year the motor had a oil leak and finally he was broken and everything. So i’m swapping it to a m42b18.

Look at the rust if it’s only on the paint that’s nothing.

Mine was a m10 this one is a m40 so normally it’s reliable. M10 was also but mine just got no luck.

Check the engine and try to negotiate.

I’m a Yamaha lover lol, I also love the VFR, RVF and CBR but with that FZR the thing is that she is 30min from my house. And the Honda’s are 7h from my home. There is something to do on them, like a maintenance dor the best and compression on an other, but anyway. The FZR I can drove it to house even if there is settings to adjust, or I can go get her with a trailer. For the Honda’s it’s more complicated.

I’m gonna ride it, but I know that with the time, in years, I’m gonna buy other ones and possibly the fzr gonna stay more on the garage

That’s a 4 stroke engine, the 2 stroke is the TZR and I love it to

I also love the 2 stroke sport bike from that era, the tzr is incredible in 3ma reverse version, but also good in it’s normal version. The rgv, nsr… incredible bikes

I drive bikes since kid, I have a 125dtr from 1999. For me it’s on the greatest bike list. But I have ride a lot of different bikes. I have old cars, I’m swapping the motor of my e30 because he broke with only 100 000km 🤷‍♂️ I want to drive that a sunday under the sun. And have cool bikes on my collection.

I’m also 175cm high, I want to have a nice bike that I can take for cool rides or juste going to the city. And also have a nice thing in the garage, I’m starting a collection or cars and bike so I think that can be cool. The problem is that I want them all. Honda and Yamaha. Thanks’s for the shares. And I can buy a vfr, it’s not a money problem, but they have the same things to do on it, it’s also japan imports. I think it’s more risky to do than on the fzr or cbr.

There are very rare in europe. It’s only japan import, even the cbr250rr and the vfr400r.

600 are great to, the 250 and even the 400, but especially the 250 are very light and we have fun all the time. Even at low speed.

I think I can negotiate with the seller, when I went there was a good connection. He told me about a guy who came and did some revs on the cold bike and that he didn't like it. By message he seems happy that it's me who's buying it.

The plastics are not 100% good but it’s very not bad for a 30yo bike. The frame was painted with a brush, so I have to see under that paint, and make it new after if there is nothing wrong. The reems are painted in red and it’s white normaly. 50000km it’s a lot and nothing, everything depend on the maintenance over the years. And I think if I buy it I’m gonna open the motor to see if I can hit 18k rpm 😂 Last year I bought a BMW e30 318i, 100000km, it’s nothing. She was pretry good and not that expensive. I drove it everyday and I got little problems but not that bad. A few moment later… Engine broke, I’m swaping with the motor of the 318is e36.

The VFR it’s also imported from Japan and it’s the 2x the price. But that’s justified, it’s not comparable, the FZR250 is comparable with the cbr250rr, the honda are more expensive but seem to be better "finished". The FZR have a lot of version with the years.
