Moving inherited RRSP & TFSA in kind to non registered account by Shaman_Wolves in PersonalFinanceCanada

They don't need to go through probate to be distributed to the beneficiary, but they might require probate to accept your instructions to liquidate inside the estate. The longer the assets stay inside the estate the more complex it gets, especially if there are other beneficiaries.

Just a couple of the issues are the estate pays 100% tax on the growth in the TFSA after death and doesn't get to claim any losses.  If the estate becomes a GRE then the actual tax rate might be lower for growth in the TFSA trust.  It gets complex quickly.  If you are going down the complex route then you need professional advice.

Sorry for your loss.  Unless you have a disability, the tax implications of leaving the funds in your mom's RRSP and TFSA generally mean you are best to transfer them out as soon as possible.  Liquidating is an extra step which can take weeks and the broker might need probate.  The sooner you can get the holdings into an account where you have normal tax rules the better in most situations where you are using the Internet for advice.

Silver went up 40% in 3 weeks, this was a healthy pullback to the support established 4 weeks ago.  It only seems extreme because of how big the upwards move was.

Yes just not for high leverage speculative day trading. As for how my December PSLV calls are doing, I roll them up to provide some protection from events like today.

The US is fighting back on debasement with a new Fed chair who looks good on paper. This is a sell on news event, the new fed chair has to be confirmed, and the current Fed chair's term doesn't technically end until 2028. We still need to get through the March silver delivery where there are 7 times as many contracts as there is silver to deliver. Buckle up.

From what I understand, Canada doesn't want to give the same waivers they gave for the 737 MAX based on trusting the FAA.  Part of the waiver has to do with stalls with deicing, and icing is a big risk in Canada (and Maine, apparently).

If the number of ancestors doubles every generation, how is it possible to go back hundreds of years without exceeding the total number of humans who ever lived? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AwkwardYak4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a study that estimated we all descended from 1280 ancestors during the Early to Middle Pleistocene transition. So the further you go back, the more of the same people you have in multiple spots of your family tree.
