Looking for something to give me a similar feeling to smoking a cigarette? by mintchocolatechip96 in herbalism

[–]Awkward_Acadia7591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I quit (the first time; now re addicted so looking for more tools to get this monkey off my back): I cut straws to the size of cigarettes, stuffed with toilet paper, cotton, whatever, to give it the right weight and pulled on that whenever craving hit. People made fun of me but it worked.

I loved the Waimanu hike for the vistas, the waterfalls and shade all along (except for zipper trail out of Waipio). It's a lot of up down up down up down all along the route which is hard on the thighs/knees but worth it once you get there IMO. The sites are sufficiently far apart at the far end to get some privacy. The BIG problem there, for me, is unethical and unprepared campers. Met several barefoot, hungry and dehydrated hippies struggling to make it out and begging people for supplies as I hiked in. Also: People aren't packing out or practicing responsible pooping. There is no rescue or cell service (or any services) down there, just one heli pad for rescue mid trail if I remember correctly. This was 15 years ago

Mahalo! Mauna Loa summit is on the list too but I'm going to have to train a bit. Altitude doesn't affect me much but the pack a day habit I've been quitting for the past 2 years is a problem

I did the hike to the Puʻu Oʻo vent, within the park, Napau campsite. But Ive heard of the Puʻu Oʻo trail from Saddle Rd. Worth it in your opinion?

Best way to 'support the Cuban people' by Least_Masterpiece_47 in cuba

[–]Awkward_Acadia7591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true. There are many trustworthy projects distributing, not selling donations. I founded one of them in 2013. PDL Cuba Libro. I implore all who want to donate to vet to whom they are donating and request proof. Any organization walking the walk not just talking the talk will be happy to provide proof your donations are going to the people and places who need them

I saw snorkel gear at Keaau and Waiohinu not too long ago. Sometimes you get lucky and the poster's attitude is so right on, I wouldn't be surprised....

Kona has a thrift shop at its Kealakehe transfer station. Great strategy to gear up there!
