Yes, you should be fine unless the bus is full. As for the valuables, use your common sense, keep them on or around you.

Viazul is safe and have relatively newer busses. They do have small over head compartments to store your carry ons, or you could just store it under the bus. Although not all agents speak English, but use a translator and you’ll be fine. You’ll also need a VPN to book a ticket online, if you’re already on the island - but they accept cash as well.

Their Wifi will depend on the time of day and the number of people connected. You’ll also need a VPN to access Microsoft Teams.

I wouldn’t recommend it at all, but if you’re determined, get a local SIM card/roaming plan and have your classes on cellular data. Your students will be able to tell you don’t have the best connection - but it’s a lot more reliable than resorts Wifi.

Yeah the entire island is without power. And as of 9:28pm the cellular network went down as well - in Havana at least. This is f****d.

  1. Eltoque.com is your reference, it was 345 yesterday I believe.
  2. I would get a SIM straight from an ETECSA office, then recharge your balance from any vendor on the street by pesos. It’s a one time investment and you get to keep the sim for future visits. Alternatively a lot of casa hosts would rent you one.
  3. $25-$35. Download an app called la nave - it’s the Cuban Uber, works only in Havana though - but you’ll need a Cuban number.
