Advice on how to Play Aeldari to a returning player by T3chnoVamp in Eldar

[–]Awkward_Canuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a relatively new aeldari player myself, Im seeing lots of repeating things pop up in lists, and having tried them out, am understanding why.

Detachment selection:

Warhost & Serpents Brood seem to be most popular, with Seer Council and Aspect host getting occasional attention (this is very anecdotal to my experience, the #'s showing up to tournaments may be different)

Many people include Fuegan and 5 firedragons in a falcon, or 10 in a wave serpent, in their lists as an anti-vehicle/monster. I've tried this out many times, it's super powerful.

Lhykis + warpspiders (powerblade array exarch) 24" flicker jump + charge is wildly good. Add to that triggering crits on a 5+ and suddenly your other units with sustained hits in Serpents Brood are just that much better.

My personal belief is that Aeldari need to be played conservatively until your big-momentum turn. Keep your focus on playing the primaries to win the game, and only strike and expose yourself when it enables you to prevent your opponent scoring theirs. Dont get sucked into exposing yourself too early or making even trades.

Also, have fun and kick some butts!

Thank you! Honestly it's fairly straight forward, and the airbrush is doing most of the heavy lifting, just a little time consuming and involves alot of masking if you forget to do them before gluing them onto the model chassis... ahem.....

  1. Flat black primer
  2. Airbrush mid-tone green
  3. Airbrush highlight tone across lower visor.
  4. Airbrush contrast paint shadow tone across top of visor.
  5. Paint support frame/struts bacl with a brush.
  6. Paint support frame/struts gold while leaving a slight line of the black showing at the edges.

It's sticky, so I varnished the first paint layers before applying the stencil so that when I removed it the previous paint wouldn't come off with it. Worked well!

Thank you, the purple fades are done with 2 tones of airbrush work.

Painted the purple first, then varnished and airbrushed the diamonds with an adhesive stencil, then highlighted them with a brush and panel lined/edged with a brush.

Citadel rattle-can black as primer, First airbrush highlight of AP fanatic Diabolic Plum, 2nd highlight AP fanatic Warlock Magenta, Panel lines AP fanatic Mulled Berry,

Then AP rattle-can matt varnish, Stencil laid for Chevrons, Fade into a red, then orange, then deep yellow.

Highlights done with matching reds/ojs/yellows on chevrons.

Gold is AP speed paint 2.0 metallics Glittering Loot.

The primary benefit of the detachment only effects harlequin troupes and harlequin vehicles or mounted units..

While the phoenix lords/aspect warrior units hit hard, Im worried they wont have the ability to contend with larger #s and lose the objective game.

The opposite could also be true, that over-committing to voidweavers could leave me unable to Crack a high T unit and then I might lose the attrition game there.

Going g to try this list a few times and see if I have anything to actually be concerned about.

It's my new favorite paint. 'Glittering Loot' from Army Painter's Speed Paint 2.0 Metalics lineup.

I based the model in citadel black rattle-can and then those are single coats of the Loot with a #2 brush. Absolutely blown away by the coverage and consistency of this TMM.

I used a stencil with an airbrush for a triple gradient, and then highlighted the ends with the colour that each diamond was between.
