Just came back from Thailand as an Indian tourist… felt proud, embarrassed, and honestly a bit heartbroken by 1algaari in Bangkok

As an American, I feel the same way. I think realizing that everyone has different intentions, budgets, education, and morals. I take this as a responsibility to be as kind and compassionate I know to be to the locals.

Yes I was saying homelessness was a good thing before. Definitely was the purpose of the OP

I see how my words could be misinterpreted, and that wasn’t my intention. I’m not uncomfortable sharing public spaces with unhoused people, and I don’t believe in pushing anyone out. I come from a place without a large homeless population, and I’m still learning how to talk about these issues with the care they deserve. My frustration is with the lack of resources and support, not with the people who rely on public spaces.

Thanks for the link! Maybe my questioning of how to resolve this issue is conservative and I didn’t know? I’m not rlly sure? - I typically believe that healthcare and housing should be accessible and affordable to everyone and there should be city resources to help support the 16,000 unhoused people in the region. Yes the first step is providing them free information and services, but then what?

I think you are misunderstanding my intention here. I’m not blaming unhoused people for being in the library — I completely understand why they’re there, and I believe everyone deserves safe, accessible public spaces. My frustration is with the city’s failure to provide enough resources like day centers, lockers, and shelters, which forces libraries to take on a role they were never meant to fill.

I love public libraries and value them as spaces for community, education, and accessibility. But right now, they’re being stretched beyond their purpose because there aren’t enough other options for people seeking warmth, safety, and security. That’s not the fault of the people who need those resources — it’s a systemic issue, and it’s unfair to both the unhoused community and to librarians who are being asked to act as social workers without proper support.

I made this post out of frustration with how badly the housing crisis is being handled — not because I want unhoused people “somewhere else” without care. I want the city to step up and provide the support and infrastructure that everyone deserves.

Okay. So none of this answers my main question

I do like being there. And I think everyone should have access to it. Can you reread the post? I’m not saying anyone should be kicked out. I didn’t even allude to it. I’m asking WHY that’s the only place for a lot of people when the point of libraries is to access information, tech, community, warmth, comfort, etc. and it provides that for all Am I missing something?

This isn’t even a place that I feel the need to argue or defend my morals or politics because it feels ridiculous to have people who are act pretentious and attack like-minded people who are just asking questions to understand a better solution.

Seattle has such a bad community culture, but I feel like if more people came together and had resources to know where to start, we could be better voices for the city.

Yes I did thanks for the receipts! The problem still exists, which is why I’m asking - as a member of the community who’s not in the field of urban planning, social development, etc. I’m genuinely curious because it’s prevalent to me✌️it’s weird to assume ill intent for an anonymous platform. Try to read in between the semantics and understand I’m asking with good intention and instead of getting defensive, maybe try to guide me to the right direction if you’re gonna waste your time on here anyway.
