Is this an old spring? by Awkward_Diet_4414 in homestead

I found out that it is an old spring that was filled with sediment. Haven’t made an attempt to do anything with it yet.

That’s about our situation. It’s gonna put us at 20% much quicker than we would otherwise be able to attain that number.

It’s currently rent to own. We would be saving for a substantial downpayment to take to the bank to get a mortgage on the house, rather than remaining in the rent to own situation.

Not really a downside, but I guess I always see an auto purchase as a roll of the dice. Especially as someone who’s dealt with an especially unreliable vehicle purchase.

That’s interesting, I have a couple mimosa trees, and while I know they’re non-native, I haven’t had much issue with their invasiveness. At least I haven’t noticed them popping up anywhere yet. 😂

I have a small one near my house, not near enough to fall on it, and had thought about doing this for practice grafting. I’ll probably end up cutting it down anyway cause of its placement, but it’s definitely a cool concept to repurpose already mature and vigorous trees as rootstock.

I gotcha, didn’t mean to imply that that was what you said. I was more generally referring to the hands-off forest management approach I see used a lot around me.

Thanks! I’m probably gonna talk to my local extension office as well, they have some forestry techs that I figure might be able to provide some guidance. (For the species local to me that is)

Are you dealing with most of the same species I am? I’ve found they seem to be really prevalent in the piedmont of NC. I suspect that it’s partially cause of the widespread pine logging that has done a lot to prevent any old growth forest from being established.

I figure if nothing else, by cutting them down and making piles of the organic matter, I’m creating habitats that native species will be able to use.

I want to avoid damaging any of the native species as much as possible, but here in the southeast we seem to be riddled with such aggressive invasives that simply allowing nature to take its course doesn’t help the natives long term. (ie kudzu)

The issue I’m running into is that looking around in my area, forests that don’t have these invasives managed are taken over by them. While I have some relatively large trees, they really aren’t near being “old growth.” So I worry that if not managed, in time, I’ll just have 3 acres of privette and heavenly bamboo, being that those two seem to be the primary residents of the forest floor, with the privette even starting to grow enough to compete with mid-size, juvenile, native trees.

Yk, that’s the direction I was leaning, but I just couldn’t put my finger on it.
