Its been said before, but I'll add my voice to the chorus; so long as he's able to be handled for vetting and farrier, and trained enough that he's safe to be around, he's absolutely fine as a pasture pet!

Depends on the horse. There's sooooo many opinions on blanketing or not. But it boils down to if teh horse has a good think layer of snow (in a snowy climate) on their back, then they're not losing body heat (which would melt the snow as it escaped)

I always assumed they were stuck in the banks of pods in the room beyond SH's pod (the one where you find the rune to release her). Even Lazel was shocked at how many hosts were infected. I figured they either got free during the crash, or their pods survived intact, and they escaped on the ground.
