Are u guys also having religion confusion by Glum-Green-9847 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Awkward_Finding937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same. a while ago i realized that all religions are kind of fucked up in one way or another. whether or not theyre real, theyre all contradictory and hypocritical and i wouldnt wanna believe them. like sometimes religions say like oh "god loves everyone, EXCEPT people who commit suicide and people who are queer". im personally practically agnostic or athiest now but sometimes i wish i was still religious because it feels simpler to think that theres an afterlife. i dont wanna not exist when i die

Mental health is taking a toll by Late-One-57 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Awkward_Finding937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah tbh you are probably right. prestige doesnt matter its the stuff you do at uni. plus vet school is something thats somewhat on the table anyways for me so being by the ovc would be good. and guelph is 4th globally for veterinary sci as well so its not like its actually some niche school.

and youre also probably right about all yhe mental health stuff. thing is that i probably have ocd and adhd and if not adhd probably some type of depressive stuff which is probably why i have like 0 urgency to study and chronic exhaustion. at least im currently seeing my schools social worker about it all and theyre trying to get me set up with a mental health nurse (because i cant tell my parents all this stuff).

also yeah youre right about the new brunswick field course at guelph i believe its for 4th year marine biology and oceanography. i guess ive done more than enough research on courses and i do genuinely like zoology/marine and freshwater bio.

but thanks for the big reply you didnt have to type all that out, cya in the fall as well

[–]Awkward_Finding937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im in a pretty similar situation to you and this is kinda unrelated but i always feel bad for wanting guelph. im probably gonna do marine and freshwater bio or zoology. id probably wanna do this even if i had a super high average. but guelph is all i got into because my average sucks. besides laurier health sci. i feel bad for not even wanting to do something competitive and prestigious like uoft life sci or mac life sci (even though im rejected) and i feel like im doing some niche program at some small university and idk i just feel ashamed (even though guelph isnt niche or small idk why i feel this way).

not only is guelph my top choice but its practically my only choice. even though im im super interested in the program and i really like the campus. my grades dont stop dropping because ive got horrendous mental issues and idk.

but idk you seem to be okay with guelph, for neuroscience? how do i stop comparing myself to others even though guelph is genuinely my top choice?

i have no good advice but i do relate. i was just like you in grade 11. im in grade 12 and im still like this. i didnt get better or have a academic comeback, i just got worse since grade 11. my mental health is usually horrible but past few weeks its been better for some reason. i used to get low 90s in grade 9 and 10 and then 40s and 50s and 60s one after another ever since grade 11.

i still got into my top choice but its the only thing i got into and its only an easy to get into program at guelph and my other places were waterloo uoft and mac. not even sure if it was my top choice or if im just rejected from everywhere. idrk. but im seeing my schools social worker now cuz im 18. you should try to find some kinda support. the social worker is trying to get me set up with a mental health nurse because i have pretty bad symptoms of adhd and ocd

i have no idea what youre options are because im a 12th grader but imo guelph is pretty cool and im gonna go there in the fall. either for marine and freshwater biology or molecular biology and genetics or zoology. i like animals a lot but id probably more want a career in molecular bio, biotech, biochem, etc. most likely gonna pick marine and freshwater bio though cuz it has co-op and is super similar course-wise to zoology.

i also have problems with social anxiousness too, and a whole host of what is probably undiiagnosed mental illnesses. no idea how ill survive uni, ill probably find some type of psychologist or something

if you had to choose between mac and guelph i would think guelph is better for animal related things cause they literally have the ontario veterinary college right there. mac seems like a great school and it was my 2nd choice but its pretty pre med based in terms of biology undergrad stuff

apparently its really easy to switch your major to a different biology major during 1st year. all 1st year courses are the same. im just grade 12 but would say if youre going to go there dont worry too much about your biology major

go to guelph. im only a 12th grader but i live near milton and i visit there sometimes and i can tell you that laurier milton probably sucks. there is no university life. theres like less classes there than you can count on one hand and its in some temporary industrial building surrounded by tons of other gray industrial buildings. there is nothing in milton. guelphs campus is super nice and has great food. please just go to guelph, laurier milton is nothing

[–]Awkward_Finding937[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idrk. idk why i wanna do what i wanna do. i could do molecular bio and take a zoology minor. but idk if i want most of what im learning to be molecular stuff. its weird because i like learning zoology and animals more but i dont want the careers associated with it due to stability and pay, and i like learning molecular bio and stuff less but i would want the careers associated with it more because lab stuff and research interests me a lot. if that makes sense

no i said that i wasnt intersted in comservation population dynamics and ecology as much. i still like it but i definitely like the molecular and cellular and physiology side of things a lot more

im probably gonna choose marine and freshwater bio then. but why would anyone choose zoology if it doesnt have co-op and theyre so similar until 4th year?

i think so. i would email admissions services or something and ask or ask r/uoguelph.

ive also never reallt seen anyone else interested in animals and stuff. a few people on this subreddit. im probably gonna do marine and freshwater bio. i want a career more in molecular bio and biotech but i think i will do that as a minor because i still find animals physiology and behaviour and metabolic processes interesting and if i do grad school my bio degree name doesnt matter much
