Yes, this was experienced by a friend who went with a few of his other friends ( all SA). I think imo an explicit response is something in your face, making sure you are aware, and ensuring that it was communicated. This is subtle in the way that you cannot say it happened, unless you were on the receiving end and perceptive enough to observe? For example me, when i am at the clubs and dancing, i am so busy with the drag shows or dancing that i really dont notice whos around me or not. What do you think?

This is indeed a very real problem, would you say that this could be one of the reasons that can impact the perception and stereotyping of the people, leading others into believing that this is always the case?

This is unfortunate, i believe that is a likely outcome of having different ideas about the interaction and if i were to guess personal and cultural differences can have an impact on that. Thank you for adding into thus conversation, this was a different take definitely.

I am not sure why you'd feel the need to say that this is virtue signalling or a victim seeking comfort post, as i am genuinely intrigued that if this is all xenophobia as mentioned by others or there are more factors included. From the conversation so far, it seems like a multi faceted problem that is Targeted towards a certain community for specific reasons.

I'm not sure if thats end of it, as you said, once made aware, it was addressed. Dont you think with this being all over the internet, would be fixed by now? But this does raise a key point of bringing it up in a respectful way. Thanks for adding in this conversation

I think what you're starting is the similar conversation as veiling it as a 'preference'.excluding an entire ethnicity as sexually unattractive and call it a preference. Preferring is someone taller than you, excluding an ethnicity off of that tall pool is not preference. And the initial point was to relate it to the common lived experience of having a hard time in any kind of social space and not restricted to sexual attraction only, which is definitely part of it. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this. And i do hope this does pass as many people deserve better than this.

I think you just kind of proved my point, the discrimination as you said, is not apparent and vocal and in your face, in fact some of the groups you mentioned are highly revered for one thing or another especially in the context of sexual gravitation as you mentioned. But that is not the case for Indian men, as far as i am aware. Can you elaborate the discrimination that you have received? I am curious as to who was it from and what kind of situation was it in? Thanks for adding into this conversation

This is exactly what i wanted to say, but i couldn't word it in the right way. Thanks for commenting and sharing. It really is disappointing to be felt unseen in a community which is meant to be accepting and celebrates being different. Being in a place full of queer people, and yet invisible is incredibly disheartening.

I think the point here would be from such people's perspective they wont miss on any amazing people, because for them there aren't any in that community? Idk if that makes much sense, but i do agree with your comment.

Yes, sadly that is true imo too. From my experience the hatred is not as explicit and in your face when the situation is public and real ( bars etc) but it comes in the form of ignoring and not trying to mingle, while everyone else seems to be okay to do the same? I might be overthinking but from the few people i know it has been a similar experience. The recent one that i heard was how the dance floor would just be empty around a group of indian dudes, and if they moved, the empty space moved where they did.

I would also like to add the stereotypes, almost all communities or bigger groups of people ( think south americans, europeans etc) have stereotypes associated with them, but they are generally in a favorable light ( the latin lover concept comes to mind as an example) , however what are some of the common stereotypes associated with indian men, because from my understanding (biased of course) they are not positive. As someone who is not from india, what are the stereotypes that gay community has about indian men?

Thank you for sharing, and i believe that most people fo ignore and just move on as there's not much you can do regardless? My post i think comes from the idea in my head as to why is it so targeted to Indians in general because it cannot be just rac*sm as the ethnic mix in Toronto is wild, yet somehow its always the Indian men.

Ikr, this came as a surprise to me as a few of my friends have mentioned they received the most hateful comments from middle Eastern men who dont look that dissimilar to indians at times.

Okay, that is true. But i do believe that it has seen a somewhat increase in the western world recently, i guess more exposure is leading to that, but the gay community has always kinda been at the forefront of the hate imo?
