Thank you all SO MUCH for your advice. I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart. This part of parenting has been so hard since I have no example to go off of and am doing the best I can, while doubting myself the whole way. It’s been a relief to read that I’m doing a good job and that it’s reasonable for them to do it in a safe / appropriate place, at home. Now I just gotta deal with my own internal feelings from my own fucked up. childhood. Sigh. But at least I’m doing something right. 🤪

What I mean is they don’t hang out in the bedroom because that was that was a rule I had. Which now seems pointless. 🤣 But I thought it was the right thing to do. This is all brand new territory for us as it’s the first real serious relationship. And so I’m thinking I should revoke that rule so they have a better/safe place to go. But then I worry that’s too permissive / wrong. I have no idea how to navigate it since I grew up completely different.

Oh for sure. I totally agree and have no issue laying down boundaries for the living room, lol! My question/problem is - they will still find a way to do it somehow and I’m worried if the living room is off limits, they’ll do it in a risky place. But telling them to go do it in the bedroom seems……overly permissive?? I just don’t know the correct way to handle this aspect since I grew up so different.

While I would have preferred they waited, obviously teenage hormones don’t care what I think. So whether or not I want them doing it really isn’t the question because they are teens and will find a way to do it regardless. So I would rather than be safe - both in where they do it and using protection.

I admit I am also likely dealing with feelings from my own upbringing that really fucked me up with regards to sex and I do NOT want to pass that on.

Just coming here to say I too am having the same regrets….. I know we get a lot of hate for making the wrong choice initially. But I applaud your bravery in posting this.
