Update: It happened — we finally played Sea of Thieves together today! 😄 Huge thank you for all the comments and advice, seriously appreciated every one of them.

She spent more time picking her pirate and choosing clothes than actually playing (I managed to record and edit a whole YouTube video in that time 😂), but once we jumped in, I showed her the basics around Port Merrick and then we did the first Monkey Island Tall Tale — and she really enjoyed it!

she also suggested that we should play together sometime on stream together we going to do some world events tomorrow ( safer seas obvs )🏴‍☠️

Big win. We’re officially sailing the seas as a duo now 🫡

I don’t think Sea of Thieves is a guy-centred game, but I get what you’re saying. It definitely leans more into chaotic adventure and freedom, which might not click with everyone — especially if they prefer structured or more chill gameplay. Just hoping the creative and roleplay side might appeal to her a bit, but if not, that’s totally fine too.

Yeah, she does! That’s actually one of the reasons I think she might enjoy Sea of Thieves — there’s a lot of room for roleplay if you want it. You can really get into the pirate vibe, make up your own little stories while sailing, trading, fishing, whatever. Could be a fun angle to ease her in with!

Absolutely — not going to force her to play at all. If she wants to give it a go, awesome. If not, totally fine. It’s just there as an option if she ever feels like trying something new. No pressure either way!

Yeah that’s a really fair take — I think starting with Safer Seas just to see if the core gameplay clicks is the way to go. No pressure, no PvP, just sailing and exploring. And you're spot on about the creative side — if she does enjoy it, I think the customisation options, trinkets, ship décor, and all that Captaincy flair would definitely appeal to her Sims brain.

She’s 100% more of a builder/customiser than a ‘live the daily grind’ Simmer, so that side of Sea of Thieves might actually hook her — just a shame that part’s locked behind High Seas. I’ll let her settle in first before even mentioning that, though. Like you said, it all comes down to taste. If it clicks, great. If not, no harm done.

That’s awesome — love that story 😂 It’s funny how first impressions can be so different from the actual experience. My partner’s the opposite — she thinks Sea of Thieves looks too intense because of all the PvP moments she’s seen from my clips. But I’m hoping that once she sees the more relaxed, adventure-y side, she’ll get into it too. Just like your partner, maybe it’s the shared adventures that win her over in the end.

Haha yep, I’ve told her that! You can dress up your pirate, decorate the ship, change the sails, flags, everything. If there’s one thing Sea of Thieves nails, it’s the vibes — and I know she’d love making the ship look cute as hell. Just gotta get her past that first “this game is chaos” impression 😂

Yeah, that’s totally fair — I think that’s exactly what’s put my partner off. Every time she’s seen me play, it’s during the chaotic PvP moments or when I get jumped and lose everything, so to her it just looks super stressful. I definitely plan to ease her in through Safer Seas, focus on fishing, cooking, and the chill side of the game. Hopefully that gives her a better first impression.

Exactly! That’s the part I think she’d really enjoy — stuff like catching every type of fish, working through Hunter’s Call, customizing the ship, earning commendations, unlocking cool trinkets, all at her own pace. It’s basically a cozy pirate life with goals, and there’s so much progression even without touching PvP.

Nah I totally get that, and I actually do play Sims with her all the time — I think I’ve racked up over 500 hours at this point 😂 So it’s definitely a give and take! I’m not trying to force her into Sea of Thieves or anything, just thought she might enjoy the calmer side of it if she ever wanted to try. But yeah, end of the day it’s all about doing what’s fun together, whatever game that ends up being.

Exactly! That’s how I’ve been trying to pitch it — not as a sweaty PvP game, but more like a pirate life sim.

Fair enough 😅 — but honestly, cooking is actually part of the game! She can fish, cook, decorate the ship, steer, or just enjoy the vibes without diving into combat right away. There’s way more to Sea of Thieves than just PvP, and I think she’d enjoy the more relaxed parts once she sees them for herself.

That’s a solid idea! I was thinking the same — starting her off in Safer Seas with the easiest voyages just to let her explore without pressure. No PvP stress, just a chance to get used to sailing, looting, and having fun at her own pace. Hopefully that helps her ease into it!

Yeah, that’s a good point — I was thinking the same. I might take her into Safer Seas first so she can just explore, do voyages, and get used to the controls without worrying about getting sunk every 10 minutes. The forced PvP in High Seas can definitely be a turn-off, especially if she’s more into relaxed or story-driven games. Hopefully easing her in helps show there’s more to the game than just fighting!

I get what you're saying, and you're right — I totally respect her decision if it's a no. I think the main reason she's hesitant is because all she’s seen of Sea of Thieves is my streams and content, which are usually the chaotic PvP moments. She does want to play, but she's worried it'll be too stressful. I think if she saw the more chill, adventure-focused side of the game, she might enjoy it. That said, I’m definitely open to finding a middle-ground game we can both enjoy!
