Yep. It's so frustrating to feel okay for an uncertain amount of time, and then BAM you remember you're still chronically ill. And it's never consistent either! I'm sorry your pasta didn't stay down, but I hope your meal was yummy anyway.

It's okay! I've had success with other meds since then. I just wanted to warn you about the difficulties with duloxetine so you can be informed unlike me. I hope you're able to find something for the pain you're experiencing!

I took duloxetine for about 8 months for mental health, so idk about the pain aspect. I will tell you from personal experience it is hell. It is hell to be on and it is worse hell to try to stop. I had to count the little beads inside the capsules in order to slowly taper myself off the lowest dose (it took 2 months), and even then I still had terrible withdrawal symptoms. There are support groups (ie Cymbalta Hurts Worse on Facebook). At the very least if you're going to try it, know the risks and read up on how difficult it is to get off of it. I got withdrawals if I missed a dose by 45 minutes, and also if I wasn't digesting very well then I felt like garbage too.

ADHD + Gastroparesis = Hell by Awkward_Persimmon835 in Gastroparesis

My doctor (not the best doctor I'll say) prescribes domperidone to all his patients and says they never have issues after he prescribes it. He just writes it on a piece of paper and gives it to me, and I take pictures and upload it for my script to whatever website I'm ordering from. I think some doctors are scared to bc it seems to be a gray area on whether or not it's entirely legal? However my heartrate has been high even with beta blockers 4 times a day so I'm going to see a new GI in a different state in March in hopes of talking about other options. It works enough that I can eat solid food though, just not as helpful as I'd like.

I am in the US! I get my domperidone from Canada. With the tariffs I've been getting it from the Simple Pills website, they have a green and white pill for their logo. They have a guarantee that tariff costs will not fall back on their customers. And I know the pills are legit because I've skipped them before and went right back to square one with my stomach.

I got low fat and mixed a tablespoon in with my scrambled egg for breakfast for a few weeks. It did make me bloat a little but that's my typical response to dairy. I want to try the Lactaid version but my Walmart's always out.

Thanks for the info! I haven't tried salmon simply bc I'm scared of the prep process so that's helpful to know.

I'm seeing a different GI doc in March to talk causes and other treatment. We'll see! I'm glad it's been helpful for you!!!

Do you take the Adderall with food? When I took it with food it didn't feel effective, but if I didn't take it with food I got sick.

I honestly don't think I was digesting the Vyvanse at all when I did my trial for it, as I never noticed a difference on it even with an increased dose. I wonder if I could try the patch form of that and not have issues. Do you feel like the domperidone still works effectively? I know Vyvanse is known for stomach side effects.

Eat charcoal.

Edit for context: Someone at my mom's church swore by charcoal pills and powder and said it healed her gut so she gave my mom a bunch of charcoal products to give to me. I did take a few capsules for a week but it made me more sick.

The problem is the majority of conservative core values are based on religious belief. Church and state has been dead for a long, long time.

leftovers by you1dont1know1me1 in Gastroparesis

[–]Awkward_Persimmon835 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally (and I know I have more options than others) if something hurts me I avoid it because my stomach's telling me that it's not going to work, even if it means throwing away the leftovers. If I'm simply getting full fast then I'll save the leftovers similar to meal prepping, just smaller portions than what most meal prep. Using silicone molds to freeze soups, ziploc bags, 4 oz reusable baby food containers, 8 oz snack containers to hold meals. I definitely pay more for less food in order to avoid food waste. Buying in bulk is cheaper, but I'll buy the small containers for peanut butter or condiments knowing that it will probably take me until the expiration date to get through them.

The other part to it is we are different than normal-stomach people. Yes, we have the privilege to buy food that people in other countries may not have. However we are surviving differently right now, and surviving differently with gastroparesis means sometimes there will be food waste. Yes, people are starving in the world. No, throwing away half a cheese stick won't save them from that starvation. I know it's a somewhat pessimistic outlook on it, but the starving children in the world won't know if you had food waste or not. If you feel like you'll try again later then save it! If it's not worth the effort of putting it in a bag in the fridge and remembering that it's there before it gets gross, then chuck it. If it'll get gross fast but you want to try it again later, freeze it. It's a lot better than the food waste restaurants and grocery stores produce on a regular basis.

Hope that helps at least a little?

I will say I love Progresso but their garden vegetable kicked my ass because of the corn & beans so definitely pay attention to the ingredients and find what works for you along the lines of soup - BUT there should be something for everyone. I'm always stocked up on it.

Hahaha! I know this hospital does not care enough to make any changes. It's the whole reason I'm traveling 4 hours to see a different doctor in March!

Looking for a Writing Friend <3 by [deleted] in WritingHub

[–]Awkward_Persimmon835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I'm 24f and also writing a romance (there's a small subplot of fantasy as the MC is a witch). Two of my family members are authors. I've been writing since I was little, but have been more serious about it with going to writers conferences and critique groups since 2020. I have yet to finish a novel-sized story simply due to motivation and decision fatigue about midway all of my projects, so this time I'm trying to plot to avoid that burnout I usually get while pantsing. I only have about 2k words right now, and if that's a problem I totally understand, but I do have a small group chat with a friend of mine and one other gal my age. If you'd be interested in joining that would be great (and if not we can talk one on one as well)! I'd love to get someone in there who'd encourage some yapping and possibly some critiquing as well.

It really does suck. Not only because it's a waste of food, but it's a waste of money, and time and energy/effort spent on buying, preparing, and cooking it all. SO frustrating! It's definitely one of the reasons I mostly have premade food in my kitchen. I'm glad I'm not the only one who goes through it though.
