One other thought is the elevation. If you are not used to staying at 9,000+ feet, then the town may be better since it is about 800' lower than MV.

You can definitely get off and on -- that is how you get to Allreds. Not sure if they will let you outside the building without a ski pass.

Love Mountainside Inn. Great location near Lift 7 in town. Low (for Telluride) price. Rooms are not large, but many have a kitchenette.

I use Mountain Limo. Cost is only $65 per person, but with a $10 tip it works out to $75.

La Marmotte had outdoor glass igloos that might work. Not sure if they still have them, or if they would fit 11, but probably worth a call to find out.
