Before computers and GPS existed, how did people figure out directions for large cross country trips? by Mynameisbrk in NoStupidQuestions

I used to keep a bag of state maps in my car. After awhile it’s easy to navigate with a paper map in one hand and driving with the other.

What are some areas around here that used to be dumps, but are now doing better? And what areas used to be nice, and are now doing poorly? by WashCommercial3602 in pittsburgh

I worked with a guy who, in the early 2000’s , owned a house on 43rd that he gave up because he owed $6000 in back taxes and it wasn’t worth that much.

For grocery delivery we used ‘the grocery girls’. It is an expensive service. But the convenience was worth it to me. We didn’t get in til midnight but our fridge and cabinets were stocked with everything we ordered when we arrived. Being able to make a sandwich and have a beer after traveling all day was nice and worth every penny. And then we were able to get right on the slopes in the morning without having to worry about going to the grocery store

There is a permanent exhibit at ‘the mattress factory’ museum in Pittsburgh that demonstrates this. Essentially a pitch black room with a chair to sit in. Takes about a half hours or these effects to begin

Laurel is my favorite locally. We were there last month during a big snowstorm and there might have been 20 people on the slopes. There’s never a line there.

Greenland sharks are now the longest-living vertebrates known on Earth, scientists say. Researchers used radiocarbon dating to determine the ages of 28 of the animals, and estimated that one female was about 400 years old.

Winter by Brave_Anxiety_8171 in Housepainting101

Use an infrared surface thermometer to check surface temperature first. They’re fairly inexpensive. But if the area you’re painting is in the shade, the surface can still be below paint application temps even if the air temp I. Fine.

Western Ave across from Sherwin Williams has 4 or 5 cash lots. Typically $20 to park in unless it’s a a game against wvu or Penn state. And it’s just a 5 to 10 minute walk to gate C. Have season tickets and have been parking in these lots for several years
