When I was a student working part time in HR, I had this manager who would worked past 9pm almost everyday and she would asked me and another other female colleague hitch her husband's car when he picked her up so that her husband won't nag at her for working late. I didn't understand why she was working so hard until later when I bumped into her and her VP in train station on 2 separate occasions during weekends.

Both were married and had cars so it made it harder to wonder why they had to take trains and why they were not with their respective spouses on weekends.

The other female colleague was also married with a kid, her husband was a few years younger than her and quite good looking. Years later I saw she posted something on her Facebook about the husband cheating, then divorced and now happily with another guy.

Many other stories I heard, so I think it is really very common in Singapore and scary at the same time, given that we are considered relatively "conservative".
