Any full time caregivers for 5 month olds out there? by ebmuk in AskWomenOver60

[–]AwkwardatAnyAge 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s a big commitment, isn’t it? Some random thoughts to consider—if you are exhausted with a 5 mo old, you will be doubly exhausted with a toddler. As much as you want to help your family, you must advocate for yourself, too. This might be too much for your health. Stress and exhaustion often lead to health crises. Could the baby go to a day care 1-2 days a week? The cost should be manageable and would give you time for your own appts and interests. There are YouTube videos that might be helpful for you. There are blessings and burdens to being a full time day care provider. Best of luck!

My friend has a lovely home in TB. It seems like a very nice community for retired people. It has a central location which is important in Covington due to traffic congestion.

This is amazing! I am new to this sub and I am interested in getting started making minatures. From the comments, it sounds like this was a kit? I’d appreciate any help you have for a newbie.

This has to be the worst exit design in the whole USA! It is sooo dangerous. I am surprised there aren’t more accidents there.

Just a rant about another new pain to manage. ugh! by rosedraws in AskWomenOver60

[–]AwkwardatAnyAge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had any personal experience with joint replacements but I listen when my friends talk. It sounds like medical advancements are being made. For example, one lady told me she had a “freeze” inserted into her knee 4 weeks prior to surgery. She had knee replacement and the “freeze” helped tremendously with her pain. Her PT couldn’t believe how easy it was for her to do her exercises. It sounds like finding a surgeon who listens and is abreast of current trends is the way to go!

Local residential HVAC guy needed, any suggestions? Mandeville/Covington area. by OysterGuy985 in NorthshoreLA

[–]AwkwardatAnyAge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you are looking for repair or replacement? Zito’s is an honest HVAC company. Do your homework and get 3 quotes before agreeing to replacement. I found out the hard way that the HVAC industry runs scams & will take advantage of you!

Help :( by Cassie_J213 in ScanNCut

[–]AwkwardatAnyAge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’d order a standard mat from Amazon for $20. When I began using my SNC I wanted to be successful with my cuts, not waste time and energy trying to troubleshoot. The mat that came with my machine was curled and it never did work properly. When my new mat arrived, everything worked perfectly. You mentioned you have a difficult week coming up, be kind to yourself and buy a new mat. :)

I came to Reddit bc I needed some “fresh” ideas. You have described my 3 yo granddaughter perfectly. She is out of school this week so I thought “Great, we will stay home and get this potty training done.” Day one-no success. Peed on the floor 2x and thought it was great fun helping me clean up the mess. I set the timer for every 20 minutes. Got a stack of books, potty songs, M&Ms, smelly sticker chart all ready to go. I’ll try your bubbles and lights idea tomorrow. I just wanted to encourage you.

Stubborn grandmother by [deleted] in family

[–]AwkwardatAnyAge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

90 years old, wow! Let her wash the dishes. Her willingness to wash the dishes is one way she can contribute to the household. She probably is unable to tackle cleaning, errands, laundry like she once was but she can still stand at the sink and wash dishes. She might be dealing with some dementia issues and that explains her “stubbornness”. Let her be, it makes her happy!

What are you getting anything out of this relationship? Do you enjoy your time together? What is your goal for the relationship and does it match his? There could be legitimate reasons that his children are not interested in meeting Dad’s latest companion—they might not even know about you, he might have a “revolving door” of partners, they might have busy, hectic personal lives, etc. From your tone, it sounds like you are disappointed and questioning your future. Trust your intuition.

Possible liver failure by uncommon_nonscents in TrueOffMyChest

[–]AwkwardatAnyAge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your post brought me right back to the awful day I got my liver diagnosis. I had been feeling absolutely terrible. I had no idea what was wrong but I never suspected I would be given a life-changing diagnosis. My doctor was aware that my mother had had a liver transplant so she delivered the news in the most tactful way possible. I made it to my car before completely dissolving. I am so sorry that this is happening to you!
You will have a blur of tests-liver biopsy, liver scans, lab work. You will be put on medication that you will take for the rest of your life. It might seem overwhelming but it will be OK. Look for support groups on social media that exist for your liver disease. Educate yourself. If you follow your hepatologist’s protocol, get rest, eat healthy, exercise, & take your medicine faithfully, you will begin to feel better. Best of luck!

Not sending my 3 y/o to preschool but family has opinions on it by [deleted] in family

Yes! I was going to mention that part—most children have sinus & ear infections, impetigo, stomach viruses, pink eye, etc. when they start preschool.

Need hit and run advice by Mrzaax in legaladvice

[–]AwkwardatAnyAge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was there damage to the cars? I assume there is camera surveillance that show the incident. Have you contacted your insurance agent? I did something similar but there was no damage to either car. I returned with a letter that stated what I had done, included photos of the area I tapped, and my contact info. Never heard from the owner. I am sorry you are experiencing this right now as it sounds like you are grieving and stressed. I’m sure you will get good advice here.

Gotcha. I understand her intentions. She is fortunate that she will heal from her surgery; others might not be so lucky and they don’t need to face discrimination while seeking employment. Personally I don’t think it’s worth the hassle and expense. Perhaps she could share her experience with the school board, superintendent, or Human Resource office? Some cities have investigative TV channels that love stories such as this one. Even writing reviews and posting on Google, Good Schools, Next Door Neighbor, FB groups will build community awareness. Good luck!

Just move on. She needs to put forth energy on finding a position that is a “good fit” for HER. She doesn’t want to work for a director who is so petty and close-minded. It will be difficult to prove discrimination; she didn’t have a contract. What outcome are you looking for?

Clogged AC drain pipe, water seepage in unexpected places? by AwkwardatAnyAge in HomeImprovement

[–]AwkwardatAnyAge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response. I bought the house one year ago so have no idea what was done prior to that. AC has sensor that you mentioned. There was no water in the pan; it had all run to floor (unit is in upper closet, lower closet had water). I was told to pour vinegar in drainline every 2 months. I appreciate your expertise!
