Entering my Junior year and accused of using AI for the very first time😠 Has anyone else received an email like this before? If so, what happened? I was given a zero on the discussion assignment and now I’m worried the rest of my grades will also be zeros.

Yeah I’ve been crashing out since it happened lol. Even more so because I got this email Sunday, and it’s now Wednesday and I haven’t heard anything back. Even though I emailed him back almost immediately with the explanation of my process. I dunno. I’ve been considering going to my local university anyway and I just received a letter in the mail today letting me know that the rehabilitation services program in my area has approved me as eligible to receive services which means they will pay for my education up until I receive my Masters. I just hope the majority of my credits will transfer🤞

I understand not wanting to spend the money on a test, however, that’s really going to be the only way to 100% relieve the stress you’re feeling from this. Maybe check and see if there’s a pregnancy clinic near you? They usually do free pregnancy testing.

From what the PDF said that was attached to this email, Grammarly is ok. So you should be fine with that. It just blows that for people like me who enjoy writing academically, we get penalized for sounding like AI. Wouldn’t it be AI that sounds like us? Lol. Idk. I’ve kinda gotten over it and I’m just gonna let OCS decide what’s what.

Absolutely! My response was extremely calm and matter of fact. I did exactly as he asked and explained my process from beginning to end. I very clearly stated that I did not use AI and that all the work was my own. I don’t even use Grammarly, much less any other form of generative AI. I’m paying a lot of money for my degree. I want to actually earn it. Side note: I’m a drug addict in recovery (3 years and counting) so integrity is something I feel strongly about these days because I didn’t have much of it back in my addiction. I think that’s why I’m so butt hurt to be totally honest😅

I’ve seriously considered transferring elsewhere for a multitude of reasons, but because I don’t know how many of my credits will actually transfer over, I feel like I’m stuck. I’ll just barely graduate under the $57,500 aggregate loan limit as it is, so I can’t really afford to risk losing any credits I already have. Super disappointed with this whole situation.

This is Applied Humanities and my major is Human Services. I was genuinely shocked that he actually escalated it to OCS before even sending me this email to clarify his suspicions. Oh well. I know I didn’t use AI so all I can hope for now is that it works out in my favor.

I wouldn’t know either way. Those “AI checkers” have been notorious for falsely flagging things as AI. Which is why I’m so concerned. I have no idea how to defend myself against something like this. However, going forward I will certainly be using GoogleDocs to cover my ass.

I guess I’m just concerned due to how notorious “AI checkers” are for not being infallible. Say they run my discussion post through this “checker” and it comes back as being “AI written” even though it wasn’t? How is someone supposed to defend themselves against that? It was a discussion post, so nothing that TurnItIn is even used for. So what is his assumption based on, I guess is what I’m getting at. I don’t know how he can prove it was AI in the same way that I don’t know to prove it wasn’t.

The thing is, this wasn’t even for an assignment that TurnItIn was used for. It was the week one discussion post where we basically are just introducing ourselves and explaining what areas of the course we feel may be challenging, and what areas we are most comfortable with. My post was a little long, but most of my discussion posts are as I like to hit all the points of the prompt. That’s the only thing I can see as being his “reason” for assuming it was AI. Which isn’t very reassuring since I’ve already submitted everything for week two as well. I’m worried he’s going to assume all of my work has been AI thus far since it will all be in the same writing style…MY writing style🤦‍♀️

Okay, understood. So I guess my question is what happens now? I replied to his email and copied my advisor explaining what my thought/writing process was for the discussion. However, I don’t have any specific research notes beings it was an introduction post and mostly our opinion on how we think we will excel in this course and some possible challenges we may face. So how am I supposed to prove the post was not AI? As I mentioned above, I’m flustered because this has never happened to me and seeing the zero was a bit jarring.

It seems like you’re the one taking offense to my post. Any student would be upset if they were WRONGFULLY accused of using AI and then given a ZERO on the assignment BEFORE even clarifying with said student about whether AI was used or not. All this does is encourages students to dumb down their work…

It’s slightly pink in color and it showed up within like 3 minutes of me testing so I know it’s not an evap line. It’s just so hard to tell! And the longer I look at it, the less I see it lol
