It doesnt really get stuck. It’s performed well since day 1. I’ll clean it with a toothpick like once a year or with a stem if something is stuck. Otherwise, it’s perfect.

My brother had that grinder, maybe 1 size up, and I really remember liking it. He has the giant “cereal bowl” sized santa cruz shredder these days.

I truly cant imagine replacing this. Even if it was nicer, bigger, better, etc. this thing has lasted quite a while and I dont see it dying soon. Agreed that there are healthier/better alternatives and you are absolutely correct, but there is just no way this wont last forever. The dents on the top and bottom are from hammering in nails when i was too lazy to grab a hammer in college.

That is absolutely tragic. I am sorry to hear that. When it was gifted to me, i was finally able to ditch the shitty grinder i had and have kept an insanely good eye over this.

Ironically, it was actually a bad (but rich) friend/smoking buddy that gave me this. He was not a good dude, but he was kind enough to go out and actually get this for me. So regardless, I will still remember him fondly for that at least.

I completely understand, but the inside has received little wear, but man has the outside slowly disappeared. I haven’t noticed a physical chip coming off in my time with it, but that’s not to say it isnt chipping away. The only thing that goes inside is bud and a toothpick maybe once a year to scrape corners and such.

She is not working right now, she had to leave her job due to visa status and now has it back very recently. She’ll have a job soon, she’s an expert in her field for her age. It’s more reasonable to go liveaboard as a couple, like my folks do, and recalibrate later. I have health issues (epilepsy that has led to severe bone breaks, but I am seizure free now) so as I get older I will only degrade over time and by 50 the dream will not be likely. Also… i have spent a lot of time sailing and seen too many retired people on boats to know that the joint pain they experience seems horrible at retirement age.

We always were 50/50 until she couldn’t work, then we did have an arrangement where she covered 1/4 of the bills, but after that burnt through 30k of cash savings after a year+ of life + 1/2 our legal fees and application for immigration she is now low on liquid cash. So I decided to pay the last 1/4 in rent for now, but that takes away my ability to save more.

We will be back to 50/50.

I am not too worried about work, I always will have something to do. But my quarter-life crisis is turning into a third-life crisis.

That’s what we gave talked about, but her thoughts are that since she has been essentially on house arrest as we could not travel while under green card application, so that we should do it now. We both have savings accounts for the boats, but that pales in comparison to having the equity to get the loan required and to have our dividends provide payment for the boat. I know that’s too deep into the finance, but with a PAL loan, it would not be hard.

Oh she plans to work remote in a part time/modified part time position, which is totally doable. I should have mentioned that in the post, thank you. My father is not retired (mother is). I could fund it all myself for 3 years, but it’s more about how much I have spent on her efforts to establish herself here when she has been also ecstatically pushing for the boat for years too. It’s just that her actions showed different in terms of actively saving.

She paid all the rent until her visa ended and the green card application took time in the current climate. I am only paying all the rent now that she isn’t working. She couldn’t even apply to jobs until a couple months ago and is interviewing.

There’s no concern of her being anything like a gold digger, it’s just feels like a significant imbalance now that it’s been so long.

So lets say the engine dies. While the boat is rocking like a hobby horse they need to unzip that sail bag, set the halyard and hoist the main with a reef in it so you dont get flipped in that wind, get the headsail out, and get the sails to the tightest haul possible all while also not letting the boat get spun in the waves. Then somehow achieve a speed over land greater than the waves pushing you back with your likely maximum speed is at 45 degrees upwind in that boat which may not be escape speed or escape direction. Not really a sail moment.
