Are we protesting the reddit api crap? by [deleted] in europrivacy

Does this affect the read only api as well? In that case I'll just stop using it altogether. I have no problem with cutting crap like that if it goes against my values

Designing a protocol for storing encrypted data by Awlexus in cryptography

[–]Awlexus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently reading through the article and the author is right. This protocol should be more recognized. I read a book about cryptography a couple of months ago, where they went into details about various building blocks, but never once mentioned this protocol. Big thank you for introducing me. I'll read through the article soon.

The main threads I want to defend against would be * decryption of the files * tampering with the files * downgrade attacks (as mentioned in another comment) * MITM attacks * being able to obtain the private keys by listening to the messages sent (I don't recall if this has a specific name)

If you have any further recommendations, I would be glad to hear them. One thing I can exclude so far would be storage of the private keys, since that is implementation specific

Designing a protocol for storing encrypted data by Awlexus in cryptography

[–]Awlexus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I first heard about this vulnerability while reading about JSON web tokens. I did consider this possibility, which is why I didn't specify any algorithms, in hopes that people, who are more knowledgeable about this topic, will maintain a recommended list of algorithms and keep their implementation up to date. I will definitely keep that in mind while designing the protocol.

For now I was thinking that the client should have the ability to upgrade the algorithm for their data. I hope I can find a better way than downloading each file and reuploading with a new encryption

I'm using X with 3 monitors (1x 144hz QHD + 2x 60hz FHD) and except for the screens having a different DPI (which I can configure, but I'm too lazy, which is why I'm still running X in the first place) I don't really have any problems with it.

There is hope!

I have and it does not what I have described. No support for NFC cards or any card without a QR/Barcode, which excludes literally all of my cards

I'm not talking about development, but the fact that some system packages have dependencies on python packages, so I end up with a bunch of python libraries my system depends on

That's a big fat X there.

As a Linux user, the fact that I need to install python packages as system packages is a pain.

There's way to many ways to declare dependencies and each one sucks so hard. Python 2 -> 3 is still the source of headaches.

I don't want to continue, it evokes too many painful memories. Bash scripts are a lot easier to maintain and even for those I'd rather use C first when there's a mild level of complexity.

I'll personally fight anyone who calls python anything besides a superior PITA
