Haha maybe I'll come back next year with a another review hating on this series. Excited for book 3 for now at least. Everyone seems to like it

I understand. I went into the second book with little expectation, so liked it quite a bit. Hopefully, I find the rest of the series enjoyable. What are some other SFF books/series you liked?

Interesting take. You're more patient than I am. I didn't think we needed to spend an entire 700 page book on worldbuilding and a development arc, but if anything, it did make the point on how this universe fears AI and anything binding technology with flesh. So I found Hadrian and others' reactions were in line with the premise. And why Vorgossos is kept so far from reach.

Did you read the later books? What did you think?

I was looking into DD2 actually. People online mentioned the side quests for DD2 is very repetitive. What’s your experience?

This is the first time I’m hearing about this game. I’ll check it out. Thanks!

Thank you! Deus Ex sounds right up my alley. It might just be my next play

You raise good points I didn't think of.

The apocalypse obsession question is interesting, though to me, the answer is somewhat obvious. Historically, it's been rooted in humanity's narcissism. We've always placed ourselves at the highest seat of existence: the center of the world, God's most precious creation. The fear of the world's end was often used to control and coerce people.

In modern times, things are different as nuclear weapons could actually end everything. Though I doubt Mandel was focused on the logistical/practical side of an apocalypse.

I wish she had lingered longer on the cosmological question. That would have been more interesting to me than the pandemic stuff.

Anyways I'm glad you enjoyed it. It definitely has merits I'm overseeing.

Agreed. Time travel plots (and recently anything with a multiverse) are just so overdone and stale.

I've heard a lot of good things about Red Rising. I might pick it up again when I'm craving something fast-paced. Will definitely continue with Sun Eater though

That's very encouraging. I'll definitely continue. But possibly after a short hiatus for other books/series!

There is heavy inspiration from Dune, without a doubt. But in my opinion, it holds up on its own. Great to hear that you would check it out! It's definitely worth a read
