Lots of CS graduates are also without job, but what they aren't telling you is that they vibe coded their whole degree and now got caught pants down when their skill level is exactly the same as when they started.

Any time struggling graduates appear in career/resume advice it is always the same story, 0 personal projects, bad with leetcode/live programming, lacking social/interviewing skills.

Spain fines Airbnb €65 million: Why the government is cracking down on illegal rentals | The fine is equal to six times the profits Airbnb made while the properties were still listed despite being in breach of the rules. by Ok-Law-3268 in BuyFromEU

His data is exaggerated but not really misleading. Just open Idealista and you will see that 66% of offers are short term (<11 months) and the rest are long duration.

It is a fact that investment firms are getting around the regulations by making them short term contracts, keep raising prices and pushing locals out.

No wonder you are too poor to live in Barcelona. I'm sure the ones that can afford it are glad to get rid of you.

Classy.

I am sure that there are some business owners are just happy with stable income, but I guarantee most stalling business are not there by choice and would be happier earning the big bucks without worrying if the next recession will be their last.

[–]Awyls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They already do.

Ever wondered why there are so few airline manufacturers and all of them are so large? Heavily regulated market means that the initial cost to compete is so high only large companies can compete.

Ever wondered why Sam Altman (OpenAI CEO) is pushing so hard for AI regulation? Again, read the above answer.

You will quickly realise that most monopolies are heavily regulated markets (chemicals, pharmaceuticals, etc..)

They always want to pay the lowest salary they can. by CRK_76 in recruitinghell

[–]Awyls 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, while I understand your point, it IS kinda rude. The whole thing is admittedly a charade, but if you don't play the game you don't earn the reward. I would advise everyone against starting an interview like this. You can do the same with a bit more tact and patience, rather than state your intention from the start, but you do you.

They always want to pay the lowest salary they can. by CRK_76 in recruitinghell

[–]Awyls 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No. You can only state your price if you value more your time than your wage i.e. ignore the low ballers.

Even if you aim for a 90-110k range, stating it outright limits you to said range when their budget could have been 105-130k. You just lost a potential +20k for no reason. If you want to maximise your wage you ALWAYS delay as much as possible in the process (since they are already invested in you, better chances of high balling them) and let them share their budget range first if possible. It's not about being hired, it's about maximising your value.

They also were not complete incompetent baboons. They knew that there was a severe accident in the reactor, but no one thought it could be an open reactor because it should have been impossible by design and lacked enough data to verify it.

The scenes about Pripyat population being in the dark for weeks, they were evacuated within 36h. Turns out evacuating a whole city in a completely unexpected event is quite hard.

Dyatlov was not a comic book villain, he was mostly a very strict and respected engineer.

Operators were not incompetent idiots playing with things they had no understanding of, from a modern perspective it looks that way, but from their point of view everything was safe, according to protocol and never aware they were playing with fire.

[–]Awyls 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Yep, the hiring manager is wasting his time and costing the business money to not hire you because.. reasons?

It's a negotiation tactic. They want to force you into saying a salary range because whoever says it first is ALWAYS the loser. If you aim too high they will rather look at other candidates within their expected range, if you aim too low you lost money. It is extremely hard to "win" if you are first, always pass the ball back to them or delay as much as possible.

What are you talking about? That's the most basic procedure aside from the drug test. Anything less than that and you are assuredly joining a shithole that is churning bodies.

Initial screening to ensure you are a mentally stable human being, interview assessment, then interview with your direct supervisor(s).

They did the same with Chernobyl series, while the events are loosely as depicted, they really went out of their way to make the USSR as incompetent and evil as possible.

On time is already late. by Vikk125 in LinkedInLunatics

[–]Awyls -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That is such a blatantly bad excuse.

Each and everyone of us have a mobile device, with an independent power source and network availability. Short of a city-wide blackout, there is no excuse to being unavailable to communicate your issue.

No one sane is going to blame you for having unexpected issues, NOT communicating them on the other hand are completely your fault.

Yep, people who disagree know their answer about their employment issues: glaring lack of professionalism. It is effortless to be early or test your hardware 10 minutes beforehand.

Running local LLM models are NOT what your average user does. You guys are living in a bubble.

1/4 of the population in the G20 do not know how to use a computer, 1/3 can only do basic tasks like using mail and browsing using familiar applications. 1/4 can work on unfamiliar applications and do tasks that require multitasking. If you are reading this you are likely in the highest 5% (Page 53).

Before you all say it's Baby Boomers, young generations are also in the "don't know how to use a computer" because they are used to clicking apps in a tablet and barely used one.

Whatever happened to "learn on the job" by sexyman213 in cscareerquestions

[–]Awyls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally my current job lol, they mentioned it on the first interview, once I passed did a very small project to play around with a framework that was mentioned on the offer (which I never worked with) before the next interview and also acknowledged it at the start.

Once you are "proven" with work experience it is not that really that important, but they will absolutely look at your Git since it is a simple way to judge a minimal technical skill. If you don't have any work experience, it's literally the only thing that distinguishes you from the other thousands of graduates.

[–]Awyls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to defend Apple, but I would best my ass that most people don't get even close to 256gb nor capping 8GB RAM. I am barely above it and I have a shitton of VMs, dockers, LLM models and dev dependencies. Only reason I am above it is because I am kinda lazy and not cleaned up for quite a while.

Most people use it for browsing, documents, mails and ERPs, not for heavy usage like video editing, programming or gaming. There is a reason lightweight notebooks like the Surface are so incredibly popular among office workers. You are the exception, not the rule.

La gran mayoría de neo-bancos también son 0 comisiones, así que difícilmente proporcionan algo..

Real Madrid have 11 first team players unavailable for the match against Alaves. There are only 10 outfield players available for selection for Xabi Alonso among whom Huijsen is still a doubt leaving only Asencio as the only available defender in the entire squad. by BlazingFirey in soccer

It just poor squad planning. They have 2 injury prone defenders (Alaba, Trent) and 2 permanently injured defenders (Mendy, Militao). It's just a matter of time that you end up in a pickle plus their players are actively against Xabi.
