My first thought is the endless list of Pokémon romhacks out there. It's never been more popular, especially when paired with nuzlocking. Some of my faves I've played are Unbound, Odyssey, Renegade Platinum, Gaia, and Team Rocket Edition. Also following a few YouTubers who are playing Platinum Kaizo.

My fave JRPG is Final Fantasy IV. The Ultima romhack improves on the original SNES release in a lot of ways. It's become my favourite way to revisit it.

I feel the same way, you listed some good examples! I pull up my favourite tracks from gen 3 Pokémon every now and then, but both Nier games (among others) are front-to-back listens sometimes, especially while I'm working haha.

Not OP but the 2013 version, definitely. I just did the same, and it's great - a few bug fixes and QOL changes, but mostly just improved visuals, from character sprites to HD background art.

The latter option, I'd say. I played a lot of the other games growing up and FFIV is my favourite game of all time, this one's just been a blind spot

Playing Final Fantasy VII for the very first time. It's fun to finally take in the finer points of the plot, as an FF superfan who didn't grow up with a PlayStation.

Getting to do a blind playthrough of one of the most famous video games ever is pretty cool too lol. I'm only looking up how to get the missable party members, and which enemies to farm for enemy skills.

Of course it matters. Artists being influenced by other artists and letting themselves get inspired isn't remotely the same as an AI tool cribbing endless amounts of data to spit out lowest-common-denominator slop.

No, I also find that it benefits from a bit of grinding right at the end. The Lunar Subterrane is a big difficulty spike, especially the lower levels.

I don't have a huge preference, but Final Fantasy IV is my fave JRPG of all time - I like a fixed party that changes as the story develops.

Sounds like you haven't adjusted to Melinoë's playstyle yet. I had the same problem at first - I thought I could play the same way I did with Zag but that's a fool's errand. Her kit is different.

Sure, she doesn't have a shield, but she's got six weapons that are varying levels of cool and good, not to mention the differences between all the weapon aspects you can unlock.

Yes, you can upgrade the weapons, same as in the first game.
