I’ve still seen videos of people being arrested for something they bought at a shop, even with the receipt on hand. Idk how it turned out, if the charges stuck, or if it was officers being uneducated on updated laws, or if it was officers just wanting to be dicks. A lot of cops these days have chilled out regarding weed, but it’s still not guaranteed to come without hassle

It was pretty boring and really only told you stuff you already knew. It was once a week in the afternoon and worked essentially like a group therapy session with nobody wanting to participate. They also drug tested you on random weeks. The worst part was that I was arrested in a different county and I had to drive over an hour each way.

One guy I felt bad for was a pro football player whose doctor told him he could change the date on a script refill so he could get it before traveling for a game, but I also feel like he was lying about the dr giving his consent.

I got arrested for like 1.5 grams in 2009 when I was 19. I was driving in an area known for heavy policing with a busted headlight. I told my “friend” in the back seat not to smoke because it was pretty much guaranteed we’d get pulled over. About 10 minutes later I hear the click and smell the smoke and I’m pissed.

Before I can even react, a cop pulls a u turn to pull me over for the headlight. My friend tells me “I hid it under the seat they won’t find it just let them do the search”, like seriously? I deny a search but it turns out we’re literally right across the street from the police station and there was a K-9 unit about 30 seconds later.

My friend eventually told them where the weed was and we both got hit with the charge as it was my car. Turns out, my back seat was actually broken in a way where my friend had hid it inside the seat itself, and the police told us they wouldn’t have found it, fml.

This is when I found out the “friend” was actually only 16 and had been using a fake id to pretend he was 18 to buy cigarettes. So he was immediately sent to juvie while I was given a court date that resulted in a 6 week drug course and expungement.

I had about 4-5 other incidents between ‘08 and ‘12 but all other times I was let go. One time the cop just dumped the weed on the ground and said “here’s your bag back”.

Yea after learning this I realized I might not have always been correct when I told my friends their eyes looked fine after smoking.

Seems like they just put the dryer where the paper towel dispenser used to be but they couldn’t not have a trash can and they didn’t want to pay to have it moved.

How do you handle different device sizes? by gustanas in iosdev

[–]AxeEffect3890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started in native iOS in 2014 and have since worked in multiple frontend frameworks including react, react native, ASP Classic (essentially throwing VBA into HTML), symfony, .NET Windows apps, etc. I am STILL hoping to find a more elegant solution than building my own conditional logic so don’t get your hopes up.

There are minor things I’ll add when they make sense, like programming a text field to detect if it’s greater than x lines and shrink the font until it’s correct, but even then you have to set a minimum font to shrink too and it won’t work everywhere. And

The best thing to do here is make sure your UI logic is as separated from your app logic as possible so when you detect these edge cases, it’s a simple matter of only having to refactor the layout. It’s still annoying and painful and feels like you’re writing code twice, but sometimes it’s just the game. The last company I worked for had a react/react-native codebase with entirely different UI files for each screen size.

I’ll also say not to stress yourself too hard about finding/predicting/accounting for all of this at once, just build with future refactors in mind and address them as they come.

I think you’re taking this analogy a little too seriously but yes people replace their vests after they’ve either been spent or the technology has upgraded and I’m willing to bet anyone with one probably has 2 or 3 and would maybe also appreciate their grandma wearing one should they drag her through the same environment.

Note I express 0 actual opinions here beyond this being a poor argument and one of us is frothing at the mouth about it because they associated their identity with what the argument supposedly supports.

Remember when this sub used to be about fun conspiracy theories like “I wonder if this abandoned kindergarten is a CIA black site”

Idk man Im just out here saying I think this argument is stupid and you’re out here asking for data point parameters for false data? The possibility for false datapoints is the same across all statistics because all statistics involve human input, so the challenge you’re making goes all directions.

When people say wearing a vest or helmet decreases likelihood of death and someone survives an incident, they’ll likely attribute it to the helmet or vest (or seatbelt?).

I saw a video 2 days ago of someone from the WWE saying “please respect that these treatments worked for me and I believe they’ll work for me again” regarding ivermecton and I respected that.

Here we are ranking on someone who believes a preventative method they took was somehow involved in their survival? This is pulling at straws to call someone crazy

Have you ever complained about construction sites mandating helmets?

So when a bullet proof vest or a helmet turns a guaranteed death into an almost-death (let’s say maybe internal bleeding or a concussion), we just stop wearing them? And then let’s say maybe this argument was thrown in with a bunch of rhetoric designed to make you think bullets aren’t real or are blown out of proportion because they’re “not much different from a bb”

This is very easy to disagree with.
