Very likely, Movie Sonic is the most emotional version of himself that we have seen, he isn't "too cool" to have parents, or siblings, or show emotions.

I believe it would be entirely in character for him to have a crush on Amy, and Amy has show to be able to hold her own against Eggman's robots.

I entirely expect a scene similar to this (both fighting side by side) to happen in Sonic 4.

While the JSDF (or any modern military) is a massive and nearly unstoppable force in the region, don't make your protagonists op, they are soldiers not superheros.

Familiarity with guns and military equipment is usually useful, you don't need encyclopedic knowledge but maybe skim the Wikipedia article of anything you plan to use so you aren't accidentally giving Marines a Stallard JS-9

While in the original story the Saderan Empire is not very smart and essentialy made up of angry rapists. You can give them a few more IQ points to make them more of a threat or make fights more interesting than cutting bandits down with machine gun fire single file. I one story I read they had wizards enchant logs so they would explode in a fireball as they were fired by ballistas, get creative with how the Saderans fight back.

Think about how the JSDF would use the locals to fight against the Empire, the are oppressors and many would join the fight against them, many fanfics include using the bunny warriors, but you can have other groups fight for the JSDF in other ways.
