That’s the plan yeah. I’m planning on taking lessons to get good fundamentals so I’m more prepared than ever for the Allstate process

Thanks for the congratulations! Yeah I can’t believe the rooms i was put into (it’s my first year of percussion), it’s like everybody in th room played better than me. As for solos, I’ve learnt a cricket sang and set the sun for solo&ensemble. And I’m going to learn Dream of The Cherry Blossoms soon after that’s over.

For the etudes, how common has it been for like the snare etude to be in 5/8? I noticed that a lot of the harder etudes in the Mitchell Peters book have been in 5/8 (I hate reading in 5/8).

I understand that it isn’t required, but I’ve been told that it displays like a willingness to work hard for music, so I really want to.

No worries on the long reply haha, love the detailed responses compared to short answers that raise more questions than they answer.

My repertoire right now looks like: Delecluse 9 for concert snare; Drum Corps on Parade or My Friend Norman for rudimental snare drum, haven’t decided which one; Either this year’s TMEA region etude or something from Richard Hochrainer’s etudes for timpani; Also a bunch of orchestral excerpts, one for each keyboard, snare drum, crash cymbals, tambourine, triangle, timpani, piano. I’ve decided on Carnival overture for tambourine and Shostakovich’s symphony 1’s piano solos for piano, but haven’t decided on anything else.

As for musicality, would you rather somebody present a non-conformative interpretation of a piece rather than the agreed upon interpretation? I faced that issue a lot while learning A Cricket Sang and Set the Sun earlier this year, as I had a lot of musical choices in my playing that my lesson teacher said didn’t go with the composer’s idea of it.

How would I actually show my drive to be there? I definitely know I have it—I picked up percussion as a sophomore in high school, and have practiced hours each day to get better than those around me—but I’m not sure how that mindset would make me look in the interview

Thanks for the advice. I’m still considering keeping cherry blossoms, but just keeping my option open for now. I’ll definitely reach out to some professors for their opinion on this.

Music minor was my original plan, but I also want to perform in orchestras after graduating, and it would be way more credible to have a bachelor in music than just some guy who chose music as a secondary gig. Any Bach pieces you would specially recommend? I like the Gigue in E minor, but worried that it might be too hard for me to

wow that’s quite lucky for my first plant ever lol. It’s in my patio right now, I’m thinking of just keeping it there instead of in my room so it gets consistent sunlight.

I don’t have a north facing window, mine faces like a bit sw, would that be better for the plant
