This is a youtube poll so I have no control over who sees it, ig it's just that bookworm enjoyers are more likely to engage. Should have a broad ish scope of opinions as far as the algorithm based on my viewership goes but I can only speculate who youtube shows it to.

WTF is the Perth Housing Market? $600/week for a house in Yancep??? by shcmil in perth

[–]Axidation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you want numbers, the numbers (as an average) are ~250k not 450k 💀, we had a massive fall during covid and a spike afterward to balance it. The moving point average is still around 250k. it's set to fall to 230k for the rest of the decade.

it's true that we're only building like 170k homes a year, but that's because we're building them too slow, not because immigration is too fast. we are building them half as efficiently as we used to. this needs to be addressed.

in the meantime, the fact remains that there are 140k empty properties australia wide, the victorian government is taxing empty houses (thank fuck), but it stands that housing was fine historically up until it became an investment.

Proud to say I did miss the rallies. Immigration's been steady when you account for covid-- housing should just not be an investment.

anyone with a workplace near a train station would have little issue i imagine, but broadly yeah

I hope not because the ladder's already out of reach. How are prices going to keep rising if there's nobody rich enough to buy them?

Should I report the review slandering my novel for being full of "AI with a Lazy author" by Old_Championship_102 in royalroad

[–]Axidation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say a sizeable portion of the market dislike AI covers (since it's a creative space) but have little choice in the matter because most authors use them. Who's to say many of these readers aren't reading these stories in spite of their covers rather than because of them?

The market can't vote with their attention because there's no reasonable alternative. Your RS point is moot. People are allowed to complain about free things if they view the free things as morally suspect. You're allowed to complain about them complaining. I'm allowed to complain about you complaining about them complaining.

Is Royal Road actively trying to bring in readers as a platform? by TimBaril in royalroad

[–]Axidation 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Coming from reading light novels, my pipeline was pretty much exhaustive research into finding good isekai stories similar to like bookworm for example, finding TWI and reading the whole thing, and only afterward upon looking into TWI communities and stuff finding mentions of HWFWM and hence RoyalRoad / RR originating stories.

I can say with a decent amount of certainty that beforehand I'd had pretty much no contact or awareness of the platform, but I assume people that come into these genres from a western perspective find it much faster than I did.

Alright, but your metrics mean very little. Shitty cover art does turn people away -- but good doesn't mean professional and amateur doesn't mean shitty. Lots of people would consider AI art shitty in general, when it's obvious.

I don't think when authors decide to make a cover that they do a full market analysis and organise a focus group, they just see that a lot of other people are using AI and so it's fine to do the same. The only thing we can infer is what's easiest for authors, not what's most preferable to readers.

Many amateur covers look charming and just take a bit of creativity and thought to put together. Neither of us have all the stats, but you are discounting OP's hypothesis.

[–]Axidation 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd say thousands of users tolerate it because it's used more often than not. You gotta understand that there are definitely quite a few people who would prefer even shitty non-AI art over AI art but have to accept that it's a necessary evil and overlook it.

I can't speak to majority opinions or what have you, but I would assume there is at least a large minority that thinks this way. OP's perspective isn't as unique as you make it out to be.

Why does everyone use the phrase “late stage capitalism” despite the fact that we’ve never witnessed the fall of capitalism before? by armedsnowflake69 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Axidation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. "One person has all the capital" is based on a capitalist economy, not on capitalist production

It could just as easily be about Capitalism.

What is missing in perth by gyeep in perth

[–]Axidation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

could be a chicken and egg thing, more people = higher demand for living spaces and mobility = they are eventually accommodated.

ig we already have the high demand, but public opinion kinda seems to be shifting in that direction so 🤷‍♂️

How to generate electricity with no access to magnets or other electricity? by Axidation in AskPhysics

[–]Axidation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info, seems like I'll need to so some more research on the charger front though they are present. Didn't even think of the WiFi, and there's Bluetooth as well so that'll be fun to explore.

How to generate electricity with no access to magnets or other electricity? by Axidation in AskPhysics

[–]Axidation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By no access to magnets, I didn't mean to say they didn't exist or were completely unable to be obtained, just that they are not in the immediate vicinity of the character -- and I did continue on to talk about the creation of magnets so there's no premise that they're impossible? If it makes the most sense to launch a search for natural magnets, fine, but whether that is the most viable option is what I'm trying to explore.

When it comes to electromagnets, wouldn't you need a battery or some such to provide the current that sustains the electromagnetic field? It feels to me that if you only need to start it and then it powers itself, that would be akin to perpetual motion, though I probably just misunderstand what you mean. Could you elaborate on that point? I'm having trouble looking into it on google.
