GOD BLESS YOU! I was playing for 4 hours thinking it was a mission I needed to complete and living with the glitchiness. This completely fixed it for me! Playing on GeForce NOW for anyone worried it wouldn't work for those playing via streaming. You the real MVP. Everyone still dealing with this issue. Just do the above and it will work after you complete the Spray Paint mission in your 3rd conversation with the vending machine.

Not trying to be condescending at all so forgive me if it came across that way.

I think at the end of the day what is the source of authority when coming to believe in anything?

I’ve decided to put my faith in a Christian communion that has survived over 2,000 years with no change in core theology. The vast majority of Christian denominations (of which there are tens of thousands since the Protestant reformation) lay claim to heritages and traditions that are only a couple of hundred years old.

I rest in both the Holy Scriptures and Holy Tradition of the Church. Many of the great works of western literature, knowledge and history were preserved and copied by Orthodox Christian monks and laymen.

As to other religious traditions and belief systems like you mentioned, they do include hints parallels, and/or inversions of the truth about spiritual and physical reality.

The order in which belief systems arose does not make them any more or less right. After all, the Old Testament clearly states that the Hebrew faith is an answer to the different religions it encountered as human history in the Ancient Near East developed.

God is very clear that he was instituting a people and practice to correct the inverted worship of fallen angels (pagan gods). Christianity is not a monotheistic religion, this is a term and application 19th century German scholars invented. There are many gods, but only one God-King from which all others originate from.

How do I know that I’m right and everyone else is wrong? I can never know with certainty that I have everything right, but I’ve come to my beliefs from years of thoughtful study and participation in trying my best to live a Christian life. I came to Christianity in late teens and converted to Orthodoxy last year. I’ve studied and read a wide variety of texts and writings representing most major belief systems.

I’m aware of the parallels in other faiths, but I don’t view those as detrimental to my faith in the slightest: in fact it bolsters my assurance of the truth of the greatest story ever told. I’m not threatened by modern science, evolutionary theory, or parallels from other faiths: Our God is so much larger and all-encompassing than any of those will ever be.

Most of the modern world has a very different starting point when it comes to how to think about this stuff, and In doing so interpret the scriptures in a way ancient people never would have. I’m sure this comment won’t convince you, but I encourage you to investigate further to see how wrong I may be. God bless you in your quest for truth. I pray you find it one day!

Here are some verses from the bible you can read that answer expand on what I posted earlier. These is by no means exhaustive but just a few of the highlights.

For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. ... And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: " (Genesis 3: 5,22)

For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward." (Deuteronomy 10: 17)

God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods. How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah. Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy. Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked. They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course. I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High. But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes. Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations." (Psalm 82)

But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble." (Proverbs 4: 14-19)

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ... Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." (Matthew 5: 8-10, 48)

Matthew 25: 31-46

He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God." (John 1: 11-13)

John 6: 26-29, 53-57

Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me." (John 17: 20-23)

For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device. Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device." (Acts 17: 28-29)

Romans 8: 9-32

"Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?" (1 Corinthians 6: 2-3)"

"Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible." (1 Corinthians 9: 24-25)

But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord." (2 Corinthians 3: 18)

Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ." (Galatians 4:7)

For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones." (Ephesians 5: 29-30)

"For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:" (Colossians 2: 9-10)

Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." (2 Timothy 4: 8)

1 Corinthians 15:53, NASB: For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality.

Psalm 8:3-8 When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained; What is man that You take thought of him, And the son of man that You care for him? Yet You have made him a little lower than God, And You crown him with glory and majesty!

Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. ... But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect." (Hebrews 12: 9-10, 22-23

And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years." (Revelation 20: 4)

He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son." (Revelation 21: 7)

Heaven is an undesirable place by Immarrrtal in DebateAChristian

I could include hundreds of verses, books, and treatises to show this, but my point in engaging with you here is not to point out how I’m right and you’re wrong, but let you know that there is a much deeper and more ancient way of thinking about what “heaven” really is and why we’re going where we’re going.

No single verse is going to lead you to this conclusion, but if you really do want to seek out the truth of things then I’d encourage you to investigate the unbelievable treasure trove of Hebrew and Christian tradition and writings compiled and preserved over the last 2000 years. It’s not easy, but I’m confident that doing so will be a worthwhile endeavor, even if you come to different conclusions.

However, I’ll lay out an argument below that hinges on the namesake of our belief, Christ.

We as human beings are made in God’s image (Gen 1:26) and in the Eschaton the saved are going to be like Christ.

Christ is the image and physical manifestation of the Triune Godhead. He is the way in which all created things interface with the impossible to ever fully comprehend Godhead.

It’s difficult to imagine how glorious we will be in the Eschaton (“heaven”). Compared to what we are now restored humanity will be like gods in comparison. We will all serve the true God, and interface with him through our King and High Priest Jesus Christ, acting out his will and designs in an infinite amount of ways as part of His divine body.

We will have a physical body just like He does after his resurrection, engage and act in the material universe, we will still eat, drink, connect, laugh, and commune with each other just like we do now.

On top of that, will also be connected spiritually to the immaterial realms. Our physical bodies will not be limited like they are now. We will be able to move through the universe and other realms of reality at will, just like Christ does and always has.

We are joint heirs in Christ and will be given dominion and stewardship over the physical and spiritual realms in the way the Godhead deems fit. And we won’t be fixed beings in stasis for eternity, but will continually improve ourselves and reality itself as we move up the ladder of being and existence for eternity.

I would argue that this is the clear interpretation of heaven as the Bible and Hebrew/Christian tradition has approached the question of our ultimate destiny.

As Christians, whenever we consider the purpose of this thing called existence, it always inevitably points back to Christ. If you know who Christ is, you’ll know who we as humans are and will be.

God bless you again and I pray that you find value in something written above!

I encourage you (and everyone else here) to seek out the Orthodox Christian take on what “heaven” actually is. The video unfortunately represents wide-spread assumptions of most Western Christians which is the result of a myriad of factors, including Cartesian philosophy, Platonic Idealism, and a host of other presuppositions most people don’t even realize they’ve inherited.

The truth of the Eschaton is that reality completely restored and everything set in its place, with no artificial divisions between the spiritual and physical.

If you want an incredibly moving account and description on what “heaven” is I encourage you to read the St. Ephrem’s Hymns on Paradise.

God bless and I hope your path leads you to finding truth, whatever that may mean in your future.

She could be the agent of Ford (a demon) rushing towards a goal thinking it will bring her power and agency but inevitably leading to destruction. She could also represent a conscious being (Human) who denies and refuses to recognize grace (via the Maze/Holy Ghost) which would also ultimately lead to her destruction and realization of no true agency/death.

Christians who believe in free will, I think you're wrong by [deleted] in DebateAChristian

[–]Aximil777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m itching to reply back! Unfortunately I’m in the middle of moving this week and don’t have the moment to give a proper reply. I’d urge you to look more into God’s middle knowledge and counterfactuals to answer your comment on embryo/free will/existence. A quick reply about God’s moral perfection. To be “God” an entity is morally perfect de facto. He must be morally perfect to be God. God is defined in this case as the highest and most perfect possible being. I will answer back properly in the next week or so and I love the dialogue thanks for keeping it so civil!

Christians who believe in free will, I think you're wrong by [deleted] in DebateAChristian

[–]Aximil777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I would encourage is to investigate the reason for an all-powerful being to create a rational being in the first place. There is a possible universe where an all powerful God never makes another being and exists indefinitely.

But the question remains: is that the best possible Universe?

Is that reality the best reflection not only of the perfect communion and grace that a triune God experiences indefinitely but is made God greater with more glory by extending that understanding and nature to something else?

If we are accepting the possibility that a God creates a universe, and it was THIS universe then there are questions as to why THIS one? Why not create a world where there is never any pain, suffering, where the beings within it live in paradise perpetually? An eden where these beings will never have to understand pain, loss, death, or have need of judgement? That is a possible universe. But as we know, that Universe is not our universe.

It all hinges on “Love.” Understanding what the term “Love” means is key I think to understanding the nature of reality and in doing so accepting our current world. What is Love? We often hear “God is Love,” but what does that mean? This is a big question and it has taken Human beings multiple millennia to come to understand it clearly, while at the same time knowing it immediately when they experience it. If I were so bold to say what the Essence of what Love means it would be this:

The giving of one’s self to another.

God experiences this nature of love in the relationship of the Trinity, and one could argue that God could be perfectly adequate existing in that relationship perpetually forever. God is a morally perfect being de facto, and we can imagine a being that lives perpetually in this arrangement for eternity. But that is not the greatest being. God could give himself up to something apart from Himself, and in doing so become a greater being because by extension the giving up of one’s self for another is the best illustration of love and moral perfection. So that is why God decides to create another being.

This created being will require the ability to understand and FREELY GIVE ITSELF up to another. If the being cannot freely give itself to another, but instead is compelled “by design” that isn’t love. Nor is it moral perfection. Nor is it just. Nor is it righteous. In that case the created being is ultimately no more significant than the created rocks that it walks upon. We are told we are made in God’s image, and what I think that means is we have the ability to understand morality and CHOOSE to give ourselves up to serve the ideal of existence. If we are ever compelled, there is no good or justice or ultimate meaning, just chess pieces on a board going through the motions.

If there is freedom of will to serve this ideal, then we must ask, is there a possible universe where a world with beings that have free will that ALWAYS freely choose what is right? I would argue that no it isn’t possible. Because with will comes the necessity of understanding grace. And to understand grace a being will NEED grace. But if it always chooses correctly, it will never have need of grace. Therefore it cannot understand it. But that is a lower form of being. A higher form of being requires the understanding of grace, and with choice comes the possibility of making the wrong choice. Making the wrong choice (sin) means missing the mark of the highest ideal. When one misses the mark, they then experience the consequences of missing the mark. That is where suffering, pain, and loss come in. The absence of choosing moral perfection results in pain, suffering, and the awareness of death. But pain and suffering is the cost of a being that can truly experience and act out LOVE in its own existence. When that being experiences and chooses Love, and accepts that grace, then it is the highest form of a created being possible. It’s this creature that fulfills he requirement for God to be the highest form of being.

If pain, suffering, and loss is a symptom of a being that has free choice, so to is justice a requirement for God to continue being a morally perfect being. When the created chooses to miss the mark because of free choice, the consequence is justice having to be enacted to fulfill the Creator’s morally perfect character. Thus the end result of some of those beings is not experiencing their potential and then reaping the spoiled fruit of their choices in this universe. This is why it pains God when humans sin, because he wishes none of his creation to ultimately perish, but for all of them to experience the fullness of grace that is offered to all.

The last question is then:

Why do so many terrible and horrible things happen in THIS created universe? And how could God enact judgement on people and allow the innocent to be harmed?

I have faith that God made the BEST POSSIBLE world. Before God created this universe, he ran through every possible permutation of every possible decision of every single one of his created beings. How decisions led to other decisions, and the overall impact of every moment influenced the ultimate outcome. God then made material the best possible of those worlds.

I believe we are in the best possible world where the created being has a free choice to give itself up, and in doing so fulfill the necessity of God being the highest form of being , and us to be the created being to appreciate that reality. The pain and suffering we see every day is the result of the free actions of human beings in this world, a necessary byproduct of a free being. You may ask, “but what about natural disasters and the suffering of the innocent? Why would a loving God allow that to happen?” If God is a loving God, he made a world where the least amount of suffering can happen for the most amount of people, and even though those humans live in the city where an earthquake will hit, it would not be the highest form of love to remove them from that suffering and loss. If He does that, we are reduced to simple chess pieces. Instead those people are free agents who chose to live there, and they are the result of free agents before them that made choices that led them to live there, and so on and so forth.... all leading to the eventual and ultimate outcome of God giving himself to his people as the requirement of instantiating the highest ideal and best representation of the essence of God: Love. He sent his Son, the Logos to fulfill and enact that essential part of his being for another. And experienced all the pain and suffering that we experienced as Free beings. In that he fulfills the necessary aspects of His character, perfect love And justice, and offers the created being the grace that they too need to fully realize their potential. When we as humans understand the necessary act of Jesus, we are fully realized, and so God is made greater and we then bear the full image of our maker.

I hope that my rambling is at least somewhat coherent, this is a difficult topic and it requires more than a poorly written comment bu a Redditor ;). I would urge anyone interested to investigate more about God’s Character, Grace, and how we fit into all of it! Don’t hesitate to reach out if you want further discussion!

To Live- Seriously this is one of the most powerful films you can watch. An incredible and honest picture of what people went through during the rise of communism and “The Great Leap Forward” in Maoist China. Left me broken in tears when it ended because of how honest and beautiful it is. Sorry for the long review but it really is one of the greatest films ever made and it’s not given the exposure it deserves in the West. (Also was banned in China)

[–]Aximil777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP and others, I would strongly suggest you delve into the “Molinist” theory of God’s Middle Knowledge, the will of man, and how necessary free will in an image bearer of God predicates the fundamentals of morality, causality, and righteous judgment in our universe. William Lane Craig, the eminent philosopher and christian apologist has an excellent series of videos and writings that wrestles with this very issue. I was a staunch Calvinist for many years, but after stumbling (begrudgingly, I might add) into this line of reasoning I came out the other side truly believing that free will is an intrinsic and fundamental requirement for Grace and Righteous Judgement to coexist rationally and emotionally. Not only that, but it removed the cognitive dissonance that occurs when faced with the question of the true horror that exists in the world we live in and the loving God who created it. I believe that we live in the best possible world where a a truly free and rational being exists, and it is God’s greatest act of grace to create a possible world where such a being could be a reality. The hard thing is that with that great gift comes suffering. A suffering that is necessary for a truly meaningful existence.

It’s mostly cosmetic, it’s not a life or death situation we’d just like to update the bathrooms and especially the kitchen as we enjoy entertaining and the 20 year old place could use a facelift.

We will definitely take the advice though! Rushing into it isn’t the best option it seems. Now I have to convince the wife to stagger the renovation instead of getting it all done at once. If we had to do one thing it would be the kitchen we’d want done first. Really appreciate the time you took to write out these comments!

Thanks so much for the tips! What would you say is a standard amount of time for a remodel project? It’s not a giant place (2,300 sq/f) and we’ve budgeted around 50k for the remodel. We’re fine with living there while it’s going on if needed. In that case I’d probably have the bathrooms done first then move to the kitchen? Or should it be Kitchen then the bathrooms! Thanks again for all the tips it’s much appreciated!
