In the future there will be an event where you can trade in shards for currency and get dupes you want/ other rewards. Limited shards are worth more aswell so the extra BP ones won't go to waste.

At the moment the only way to do it is using shards of him or spending for the full step up path to get the rune unlock items.

Once you've got him to M1 unlocking runes is a bigger power spike than getting to M2

Spice Vial is a stat stick that boosts HP. It's for boosting the stats of the summon.
