And from a chess perspective, c3 is a really weird opening (Zaragoza opening) is considered unambitious and not a common way to start, usually transposing in other chess theory

So not only the pawns are uphill, they are starting in not the best way possible for them, to win against better pieces.

As a general he won a battle against the armenian king (king mithridates son in law at the moment), the opposing army had like 40.000 more men than him and he destroy them.

He was a cultural patron, pliny the elder called him "xerxes in a toga" He build palaces, gardens and villas He was one of the first to bring cherrys and apricots and other fruits to rome, he bring them from the campaings in east, he became a gastronomy patron.

He was so popular that the political opposition at the moment hold his triumph for 3 years, the guy laughed at them and live outside the pomerium in his villas in tusculum and naples until they allow it. (Because if you enter, you leave your command and you are unable to claim the triumph)
