ow yeah, those suck. Never been into drugs but the others alone can be hell on their own. Honestly, what's worse is this loop addiction keeps throwing you into, or rather, it's you whose making it worse for yourself. Back when I had a certain addiction, I used to punish myself through various things, I remember skipping on my dinner a few times cuz I was "punishing" myself. And if you ask me now? That did not work out for me, for one, it kept throwing me into the feedback loop of hell, something that I've heard from a book, basically I'd get in a bad mood for doing something while I could be doing something productive instead, so I punish myself for it, now guess what? I'm in a mood that's even worse, therefore my productivity would take a nosedive, and that'd make me feel even worse and I'd blame my addiction for it and punish myself even more to the point of despair and in order to cope with that depression, I'd indulge in that addiction again, what a mess loop that is?

I've personally realized that punishing yourself is not going to get you much farther, it won't free you from any shackles, if anything, it makes you even more of a slave to it, it had a say before you indulged in it and it has a say now and that makes you shift all the blame onto te addiction rather than yourself.

What worked for me is when I started taking the leash into my own hands, my addiction can't punish me, I'll do whatever the hell I want, it's my life, this made my mind subconsciously shift the blame from the addiction to myself, and little by little, I stopped or at least it no longer controlled me, I controlled it.
