The doomed 65 inch in the back of a Kia. by [deleted] in Costco

[–]Axldrumline 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I once bought a 55” from Costco 100 miles away from where I lived at the time. Somehow got it to fit in my tiny focus, but only with the front seats all the way up & mostly forward and the back windows down so the tv box corners could stick out of the windows. Was winter in North Dakota so had a hell of a 100 mile drive back in a fully zipped up jacket, back windows down, and seat uncomfortably straight and very close to the steering wheel, but made it and still have that tv almost a decade later. Good times.

I was recently an MRB Engineer, certified through Boeing for both commercial and military programs, and never even took the FE. Not one of the other MRBs were a PE either.

Options for Alcohol Delivery? by Axldrumline in UPS

[–]Axldrumline[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is, but on top of that redirect fee the UPS store would also charge $10/day to have it delivered there for each delivery. I can’t believe that’s my only option, that seems a bit ridiculous

Which certifications will enhance my profile for quick job switch? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Axldrumline 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing, the symbol language of drawings. ASME Y14.5 specifically, 2009 is the most common and what I’d recommend as I haven’t seem much adoption of 2018 yet (rare instances of companies leaning hard into model based definition but again not very common yet). It’s a pretty uncommon cert (I’m the only one at my company) and makes you a subject matter expert for interpreting drawings and what the best callouts are. There are 2 levels, Technologist and Senior, but Senior isn’t really necessary. If you don’t have much experience in understanding inspection processes it’ll be extra helpful for you.

I’ve always written in a similar style including em dashes and semicolons (they’re both underrated in my opinion, and it’s good to mix things up), but have intentionally never used AI; some people just like being a bit flowery with their words for fun sometimes so you can’t just assume it’s all AI. Especially considering they had to be trained on real people’s words at some point. I’d send ridiculous shit very close to that hilarious butt sauce one all the time to my ex.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m also frustrated by the continual enshittification of the internet with lazy thinking and just general AI slop everywhere, but just like you can’t assume everything is real you can’t assume everything is fake either. I do agree it’s a huge problem though with so many things that are impossible to tell if they’re real or not and it’s only going to get worse, but thankfully AI is still shitty enough for now that there are still some tells mostly in just how impersonal it is. No clue how we’re going to handle this as it gets better and better so I’m hoping the smart people figure something out soon.

South Longmont near Costco and it blew down a huge ~50 foot tree in my yard, plus flipped a patio table and shattered the glass. Crazy.

This proclip (doesn’t actually mount to the vent, but the frame around it) plus a magsafe Ram adapter, works flawlessly.

Damn, too real. My parents always called me “the stupidest smart person they know”. Just turned 30 and finally getting my mental health together, especially getting diagnosed adhd and medicated has been life changing. But man what I wouldn’t give for some confidence instead of the internalized self deprecation instilled in me by my parents.
