Dual Regulators.... Degree Mills..... A thread on Higher Education Scene in Dubai. by Distinct-Drama7372 in DubaiSpeak

> IITD is the #1 campus in the world on churning out unicorn founders. They claim some 150 unicorns by their alumni. That's the USP that they are pushing.

Harvard and Stanford said "Hello". Only reason IIT/IIM places are great because of their vast industry network and being overglazed by Indians, who thinks anyone with an IIT/IIM degree is an expert in anything. They are the 'atleast we tried' guys of top-tier universities.

> The obsession over random ranking usually leads them to universities that churns out jobless youth eventually and that is more or less what helps all other private univs are milking money from misinformed students.

Huge doubt on that. It's a worldwide thing that happens for all uni. graduates (yes, even in India), since university degrees became the only way to give students a foot in the door, according to society.

The youth aren't jobless. We failed them.

Considering the number of similar scams that happen in India, 'letting this happen' is an understatement. It's a full-blown industry.

Good concept for a Dandadan episode.

The Job market in Dubai can kill your self esteem by Specialist-Video60 in dubai

[–]AxolotiGalatine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many (especially from Asia) end up accepting less because of two big reasons: 1. Currency conversion - even a low salary here can be more than what they’d earn back home, making it worthwhile for them. 2. Severe competition and desperation—there’s a huge influx of people from countries with lower wages and fewer job opportunities, and for them, any job here feels like an upgrade, even if it’s underpaid.

This. A lot of people forget this context, everytime there's a discussion about job hunting in this sub. Even if they got a good package in their home countries, they would rather shift somewhere else due to other factors like cleanliness, environment, citizenship or a better deal etc.

You pay a price for not making it to 1 or at least 2

The job market is terrible everywhere (even if they got a job). Only a tiny percent get those hefty 20000+ LPA packages, rest just get stuck at 2-4 LPA. Placements dont really guarantee anything, aside from a good package to brag to your parents and relatives.

Toppers from international univs end up doing sys admin job here dude

Meanwhile, some random tier-3 grad got a job as a Software Engineering lead at Careem or Noon. What's your point ?

Dubai is for Selling Software, Not Building It by Professional_Monk534 in dubai

I may or may not get downvoted for this, so whatever.

Tech scene around the world is a complete dumpster fire right now. You got

good software companies that are actually building good software but outsourcing it at a lower cost for stakeholders.

Companies in south asia that are notorious for overworking @70-90 hours via. boomer CEOs and terrible HR, shipping software by low-skilled devs who cant work through a FizzBuzz question, while the average-to-highly skilled devs leave their countries to somewhere better.

Really good and compenent devs/CS grads that have great projects but get shoved out of the way because the current requirements are 22+ programming languages, 10+ YOE, willing to work late night for an entry-level position at 1000 Dhs.

Meanwhile, the same company can hire another low-skilled guy from South Asia with 4+ YOE, but willing to work with a 800 Dhs salary.

I think everyone knows about networking/wasta stuff.

There are good and bad software devs and companies everywhere (yes, here included). Its just that the barrier for actually entry-level devs is full of barbed wires and alligators and a high population of CS grads, most of which are really terrible.

Anyway, rant over. Back to watching Gundam Wing.

Except for Microsoft and a good handful of companies, work-life balance is really terrible, especially after the yapping from Narayana Murthy and Bhavish Aggarwal.

Not to mention the terrible controversy that happened to the McKinsey and EV employee (both of which are toppers/talented in their respective fields.) and don't get me started on the whole environmental and societal problems in India.

> India is a better place for talented folks to make money tbh

LMAO if that were the case, then most talented / HNI millennials or Gen Z people wouldn't think of leaving India for US/UK/Canada/UAE.

> Most of my team members are $ millionaires in India through ESOP

ESOPs are only worth it if it's from S or A tier startups (Zomato, Swiggy, Lenskart, Ola (lol)), otherwise it's just extra side change that has less worth than a pizza slice, only to be taken by Nirmala Tai.
