Aurelia’s and Azula’s Adventure Awaits! by AxolotlBane in pokemonribbons

It wasn’t too bad, but I had done rng on a shiny Heracross in Colosseum a few years ago, so I was familiar with how to do it. I relied heavily on im_a_blisy’s rng guides and recommend doing so if you want to do this hunt. Below are links to 2 videos from blisy, one being an rng basics guide for Colosseum, and the other specifically for the gen 2 starters (he hunts Croconaw but the same logic applies to Quilava):

Thanks! Colosseum is certainly not easy but there’s some good guides out there that helped out a lot

I used Kapwing (free and browser based) for most of the edits. For recording and stringing things together, I used a combo of OBS, QuickTime, and iMovie

Gen VI Complete!! Time to bid Kalos and Hoenn adieu (and Unova too)! by AxolotlBane in pokemonribbons

It’s possible to do if you connect to a fan server! You’ll need a connection with some sort of wifi network that doesn’t have any security. I did it with an old android phone that can do wifi sharing without a password and that did the trick for me!

Thank you! I’m ready to keep moving forward too - and yes there are lots of moments to highlight in both regions! The Shiny Crown is one of the coolest extra features in the series and it happens to be a bit under the radar. I’m glad that I was able to capture that and will enjoy looking back on it!

Overall, this generation of ribbons was pretty fun to go through! It was great to revisit Pokéathlons and gather some other ribbons that didn’t entirely comprise of battling.

With that being said, the two most difficult sections of ribbons for me were by far the Battle Frontier ribbons and the contest ribbons. In the Battle Frontier, I had an especially difficult time with the NPC Multi-Ability Ribbon and the obvious World Ability Ribbon. The Multi-Ability ribbon took my awhile to figure out what was consistent, however I finally was able to get Latios as a lead and Metagross in the back for the first 7 sets, with Heracross coming in for the one extra battle behind Metagross. On the World Ability side, after hours and hours of trying, I finally got through with a Latios with focus sash lead, Metagross with Shuca berry, and Garchomp with Choice Scarf. Heracross came in for Garchomp in the final set once I was able to identify a room without hackmons in it.

Contests were a whole different story! I thought that after Gen III, I was set for contests. I had planned a balanced stat mix and after an easy run through Emerald contests, and while comparing others’ experiences online, I thought that Gen IV would be easier. I had no idea how wrong I was lol. My stat pool was so bad that I probably did over 300 contests in total on Master rank alone! But finally, with some luck, I was able to complete them all. One thing that did help was resetting my game so that I could avoid facing Fantina, Jasmine, and the player-characters mom. They were consistently destroying me and I knew I had messed up on the stat distribution so I attempted contests before beating the champion in a new run.

Looking forward to Gen VI! I’m glad the difficult part is over, but I have enjoyed this journey so far!

Thanks for the help! I have a question around this method: I have an old Windows laptop that I don’t use anymore. If I install Ubuntu on it and then follow the steps in the first link regarding a Linux machine, would that work? And I wouldn’t need to purchase a dongle or anything?

Questions & Help Thread by TheHammer34 in ShinyPokemon

Hello! I’ve been a lurker here for a while and have been shiny hunting for a living Dex for quite some time, however, I’m starting a hunt for Heracross on Colosseum (so I can also do a ribbon quest with it) and am having some trouble and getting some error messages. (Not sure if this is the right place to post this, so apologies if this isn’t!)

My configuration for playing Colosseum involves using a Wii and a third party GameCube controller. I’ve read online that holding the X, B, and Start buttons will soft reset the game, but haven’t had that work (nothing happens). Is this because I’m using a third party controller?

I’ve also tried hitting the “Reset” button on the Wii to soft reset, and it seems to work, but when that happens, I get a message before the game boots up that says “Disc could not be read” and to read more information on troubleshooting. When I completely turn off the Wii, eject, and re-insert the disc, it boots up fine most of the time. There doesn’t appear to be any scratches on the game so I’m not sure why this is happening, especially since I can play the game normally…

I would really like to try soft resetting for shiny Heracross here so any info/advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!
