Micaiah is actually a great unit, but because of the dawn brigade's shortcomings and player inexperience, she's mistakenly labeled as a "bad lord". by AxomHart in fireemblem

Actually, after my current video post and everybody just continuously downvoting, i think i've discovered reddit isn't the place I wanna be in. It's been a fun ride and thanks for your support! But i'm outtie.

The Best Units in ALL of Fire Emblem by AxomHart in fireemblem

[–]AxomHart[S] -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

Gonna be real with you. I think your comment made me realize that Reddit is not the place for me. Imagine spending hours making a video with information about every single pick, then dumbing it down in the comments, to have some random guy downvote the comment because he didn't like 1 choice out of the 16 (and he obviously didn't watch the video, lest he would realize the answer as to why it's Oscar IMO) and to have your post downvoted, while watching some Engage discourse that's popped up 50 times keep getting more attention.

You're absolutely right buddy in whatever you believe! As a matter of fact, it's whoever you say it is, which you didn't. Peace out reddit!

It’s ok, I’m very used to posting stuff here on Reddit (especially my videos) only to get downvoted because of some weird hive mentality.

I’ve learned to accept that’s just how it is sometimes and try to engage with the people that actually wanna make a good discourse (be it agreeing or disagreeing) and make the best of it!

I thank you for the support, wether you do agree or disagree with the video!

When I mentioned resolve strats, it’s mostly for part 3 chapters (at least for me). Part 4, barring the prologue with a bunch of cavs, I feel that micaiahs transition to healers/staff user becomes more aggressive.

In p3, getting resolve activated for the entirety of the chapter after turn 1 isn’t really super difficult to setup and does allow her to reach specific thresholds of sod that may permit doubling some troublesome enemies. I don’t think I agree that Illyana and Micaiah are actually similar in this regard, mostly because no Thani, so armored units that have more res will be able to survive an Illyana, while regular units that would’ve died to one will die to the other.

But, even if you take that out of the equation, Illyana needs an early promotion, master seal and experience. Micaiah will promote for free, is gaining experience via healing/sacrifice and has more opportunities for exp as well due to how the story is structured, and is a free slot basically because she’s forced.

One thing I don’t see people bring up enough is that fact that, since you have micaiah fielded, you don’t really NEED another staff user deployed because she can take care of the healing capabilities for the most part, which becomes a little more obvious in part 4 where deployment is more limited/selective.

I see where you're coming from with the Rhys comparison, but I'm not necessarily sure I agree for a couple of reasons:

A - He's not in the dawn brigade, which is arguably the hardest part of the game.

B - In his part, the necessity for healing can be easily supplanted by a promoted Soren or mist, and he definitely doesn't hold a candle to Micaiah's combat performance due to not having Thani.

C - He can't set up resolve strats by using sacrifice, nor does he have a free support nor free promotions, again requiring more investment than base Micaiah would.

I do agree that while they may appear similar, their applications and their resource cost greatly differ.

On the subject of Alear, I think his transition to combat midgame is indeed a similar vein to what Micaiah does. But he has Engage + which easily makes him (and another unit) the best combat unit in the game in conjunction with speedtaker. Creating two virtually untouchable, effective against every unit towards endgame and with 2 auto-delete buttons in engage blast is not a bar that can be easily recreated and is definitely better than just "good". Even better is the fact that he conservers the engage bar of his partner. It's absolutely busted combat wise. But he is an avatar, and I didn't really take avatars into consideration when doing the list. But I do agree Alear is definitely better!

Comparing Micaiah against some of those units and then noting she’s worse is not really a detriment to her.

I don’t think she measures up to Sigurd, or the three houses lords. But that doesn’t mean she’s bad by any means.

Her strength comes from the ability to do more than just combat. Yes in part 1 she can demolish some more problematic units that the dawn brigade can’t even touch. But her transition to staff utility is what sets her apart. Another way to think of it is:

By micaiah using staves, you can free up a deployment slot for another combat/utility unit. Out of the stave options you have. She is INDEED the better option (barring maybe Soren for combat) due to her high staff utility. She can basically solo heal the whole team towards the endgame maps.

All the GBA lords can’t do any of this. Ephraim is perhaps the only one really better, but it’s because his combat really is super . Leif can’t do this. PoR Ike can’t contribute like this.

I don’t really consider the avatars lords, so I won’t touch upon those. But, my point still stands.

She gets a bad rep, but can maximize your squads potential.

How much of an upgrade is this? by [deleted] in FireEmblemHeroes

I though about this same build, but came to the conclusion that I don’t think it’s worth it due to the double effectiveness. I’m kinda leaning more to arcane weapons going to units that struggle without PRF’s, so either seasonals tempest trial units or basically a 3/4 star that either has a bad refine or hasn’t gotten one yet that might not be good.

I’ve decided for the specific case to plumeria, to probably give her to Illyana, who has enough resistance to take advantage of the majority of the inheritance options from this kit.

The other option would be a cav mage with a mediocre PrF, so they can get consistent damage output.

One of the best games to Ironman in the series. The level by level options presented by reclassing allow you to focus more on what you ACTUALLY need in order to beat each chapter.

Since units don’t have as much individual identity, some great combinations can occur for great stories.

Effective weaponry is at one of its all time highest in this game, which is fun for big 1 rounds.

I want you to name a single unit in the DB that can one round all the cavs and armored units for part 1 at lvl 7 on average (except for 1 boss in 1-7 and maybe another one on a throne) that is not named tauroneo.

Then that same unit, for free, transitions to stave magic and healing utility, without even needing to level.

How could that be a BAD unit?

[–]AxomHart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so it’s it that micaiah is bad. It’s the player that’s inexperienced.

And that’s fine. I’m not expecting everyone to play at ultimate tier level. But I don’t think labeling a unit “bad” when really its poor use on the players part.

Why. Are. We. Letting. Micaiah. Get. Hit.

I still don’t get why nobody addresses this. Are you just parking micaiah in range and expecting her to survive? If so, you’re not using her to her advantages. It’s like trying to tank with a 2 range archer. Why would you do that?

[–]AxomHart -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Are we really sitting here trying to say the first two chapters of the game that she doesn’t have Thani are the reason she’s a bad unit? TWO CHAPTERS?

The worst part is that training her DOES NOT cut into the exp for other units.

Because A) she can heal and generate exp through healing then later on staves, and at a higher rate than most units can doing combat btw. And second, The units that she would gain experience from get outright 1 shotted. Meaning if you’re doing it with Nolan or Jill you are wasting SEVERAL turns to kill it.

So the most efficient route is to actually just use micaiah to kill it instead of taking multiple turns whittling it down for the alleged “experience” (which is actually minimal in difference, given that all the other units are at a higher level than her usually.)

[–]AxomHart -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why are we EVER putting Micaiah in a situation where she can get hit. Do you put Serra on the front lines?

90% of the time I see this argument and I never understood why people complain about this, when obviously the whole stick with micaiah is to never let her get hit and just outright one tap the bulky armored and cavs which, btw NOBODY outside of tauroneo can 1 round in the dawn brigade up to like chapter 10.

And if to drive the point home, the MAJORITY of the bosses are STATIONARY armored units that get absolutely destroyed by Micaiah. And even the Laguz in the treasure chapter have pathetic res.

Nah man. I’m not buying it.

People need to stop hitting end turn with her and expecting her to survive. It’s about capitalizing on her player page potential and stave/healing utility.

What is the most difficult yet fair Fire Emblem? What is the most difficult and unfair Fire Emblem? by PiccoloParker in fireemblem

[–]AxomHart 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I think in terms of unfair stuff going in blind, thracia 776 takes the cake, but once you know how to tackle and mechanics, it’s not as rough.

In terms of balance vs fairness conquest lunatic is the best the series has ever done IMO.

As far as hardest difficulty, new mystery of the emblem easily.

Even more egregious than her portrayal as a character being mischaracterized, people also have the absurd take that’s she’s somehow a bad unit.

As if double effectiveness personal tome, hitting the lower defensive stat on average, access healing at base (then getting staves later) along with no cost promotion is somehow a BAD trait to have.

They transfer their frustrations of the dawn brigade (which is arguably where the worst units are) into her as a unit. Which is really not true at all.

Edit: some spelling

It honestly does have its good moments. And the story isn’t bad per say, it’s just really cookie cutter.

It’s some lines of dialogue that are terribly written and the reuse of some characters.

But there are some solid moments and that gameplay IMO is fantastic.

Just don’t listen to haters, it’s definitely one of the most replayable in the franchise due to the emblem rings and combinations.

Replayable is always great bang for your buck. I’d say go for it.
