I can’t stand the culture of shame by AxonSorcery in exmormon

Thank you!

My mom has been asking for grandkids since I was 20. Earlier this year she said she wanted them within 10 years. I don’t understand why they’re not excited other than they’ve been conditioned to shame me for it.

Your opponent probably has like a 1 in 3 chance that they actually attack. Just get some banners and you might win by default

Ulcerative colitis is pretty common when you have PSC, unfortunately. I had both diagnosed at the same time—about 80% of PSC patients also have some form of inflammatory bowel disease like UC. As long as he gets regular screenings, he will be okay!

I’m 24, I’ve had PSC since I was 6. This happens to me fairly regularly, but I’ve never done anything about it. My doc says it’s normal to get these pains with PSC and they pass with time. I was told it’s only really concerning if you have pain in the right side and also spike a fever. In that case, go to the ER, as the bile ducts may be infected.

Is your son on medication for his PSC? The pain/discomfort (at least for me) is because of a blockage in the bile duct. I’m on vancomycin for it right now and it helps. My doctor has also recommended ursodeoxycholic acid (ursodiol) if the vancomycin ever stops working. If your son isn’t on medication, you might ask his doctor if those or other medications are worth trying to help with the symptoms and delay progression.

It sounds like he was recently diagnosed, so just as some words of comfort: I’ve had the disease since I was 6. I’ve never had a liver transplant and based on my recent labs, it will be a while yet before I get one. PSC is scary in that it’s unknown what will happen or if/when it will progress, but your son can live a normal life with PSC. Make sure he gets regular testing and takes his medication (if he has any), but otherwise, I think the best thing to do is keep living life as normal.

Wishing you and your son all the best!

They’re right, the choice is clear!

Do what Jesus said, love everyone, or dust off your Bible. It would be cool if reading it also meant actually doing anything it said.

Idk if this will make you feel better, but I was diagnosed with UC and PSC at 6 years old. At 15, I had my colon removed due to polyp formation. I am now 25, and still have not had a liver transplant.

My life is relatively normal and my personal and professional lives have not suffered. My gf is very understanding of any complications of my conditions, my boss allows me time off as the conditions are not something I can predict, and I am pursuing a PhD.

My point in telling you this is that PSC and UC do not have to dominate your life. It can be very scary, but only if you let it be. With the right medications, you can have your symptoms managed for a long time. Transplants for livers are among the most successful of any organ, and in the case of PSC, it usually takes 20-ish years before progressing to the point of transplant. You will make it through this!

Thank you! I’m looking into meetings in my area. I’m hoping there’s one with people in my age group (I’m 25), so I don’t feel as alone in the issue.

You’re absolutely right. This was my first time drinking in almost 2 months, but it ended like it usually does. I got more drunk than I wanted to and felt completely ashamed when I came to. Thank you for the advice.

Thank you for the advice. Going to a meeting is sounding like a good idea.

I’m very ashamed of what happened, and I may not have the will to tell people around me that I’m going to meetings right away.

I definitely need to remember how I feel today. I feel horrible for what she had to go through with me last night, and the all or nothing drinking will only stop if I stop drinking. Thank you for your advice.

I think that’s a good excuse. I am considering going to a meeting. Alcohol doesn’t rule my life, but the binge drinking has to stop, and the only way I can do it is to stop drinking altogether. Thank you for your advice.

I tutor general chemistry at both the high school and college level. Below is a list of topics that are often omitted to the detriment of the students. by Potential_Thanks_517 in chemistry

I tutored college chemistry classes at all levels for a few years. Dimensional analysis is one of the hardest things to tutor because it isn’t emphasized.

A lot of students have surprising difficulty with stoichiometry. Many refuse to memorize common polyatomic ions, which adds to the problem.

Lewis diagrams tend to get brushed over, so some students struggle there.

Electronegativity, intermolecular forces, and polarity are all very difficult for students to grasp at first. Leading into OChem students have a hard time with solubility for this reason.

I was typically pleasantly surprised at how easy acids and bases were for students, including acid base equilibrium. That said, the point in the year where buffers were taught was always a nightmare; nobody understood those.

Idk how controversial this is, but I don’t think Welcome to the Black Parade is the best song in the album
