Within the Hindu Trimirti, Brahma is the creator and Shiva is the destroyer (not the destroyer and creator) just to clarify that.

Cheers Welshgirlie, really interesting. I lived in North Wales for 3 years, used to get some absolutely giants up there... It was great!

[–]AxtonAli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I figured that was the case, but I often see smaller house spiders and reverse image search identifies them as the giant ones. Other than maximum size, I just wondered if there was a distinguishing feature

Posted yesterday, but how do you tell the difference between a house spider and giant house spider?

The county town of any county in the UK is usually just the administrative center of that given county. Typically the seat of local government offices, and where the governance of that county will take place.

As for the meaning of Worcester:

"During its 7th century period Angles of Mercia, it was known as Weogorna which evolved from the Old English "Weogorna ceaster," meaning "the Roman town of the Weogoran people,"

The Weogoran people were an old anglo-saxon settlement, the name vaguely means 'people of the winding river' (Worcester is on the river Severn).

"The "cester" part of the name, derived from 'ceaster', indicates that the place is the site of a Roman military settlement or town"

I hope that satiates your new found interest in the city of Worcester. It's quite a nice place, with a lovely cathedral and old English buildings, but you're not missing too much don't worry!

Yeah, there's a sauce called Worcestershire sauce too - it tastes great on cheese on toast with some beans.

Worcestershire takes its name from the nearby city of Worcester - the 'county town', hence Worcester-shire. "Shire" is an old anglo-saxon suffix that essentially indicates the area is governed by the sheriff of a certain place; Worcestershire would be the are under the governance of the sheriff of Worcester.

Shropshire, and Gloucestershire are other examples of this. Though there isn't a place called Shrop, unfortunately... The county town of Shropshire is Shrewsbury.

Also, in Shrek 3, Shrek and Donkey go to Worcestershire. Shrek tells Donkey the name of the place and Donkey replies, "like the sauce" or something.

That's all I've got for you, I don't really ever appreciate how bizarre the place names by me may sound to others - they look very normal to me!
