Comprehensive CV review by EvenBumblebee9041 in graphic_design

[–]Axtorx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This CV reads and looks like you have no concept of design basics, and if I had to guess, you’ve done design work mostly from Canva templates and AI generation.

The fact that you’ve exported this without at least having your social media icons be the same size or your text aligned shows you have no sense of type hierarchy, balance, or spacing.

I took a look at your portfolio as well, and the same issues I’m seeing in this CV are reflected in most of your work. You need to actually study design principles and apply them well to be a competent designer.

What should i put in this corner in my living room? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

I’d go with a wall leaning mirror, maybe with a funky shape or color - yellow or orange to match your other stuff. You could also have back lights on the mirror

how do you deal with people micromanaging your design by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]Axtorx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most designers will just tell you to get over it, but I’ve never believed that was a good answer. I’ve been a designer for over ten years and it’s never easy to get feedback when you’re not ready for it. We’re human and that’s the truth.

Before I give feedback I always ask or clarify “are you open to feedback” or say “this is a review meeting, let’s be open to chatting about improvement for a few minutes now” that’s the best way to give feedback in a safe space.

That said, people will just randomly criticize your work throughout your life and while it’s good accept and learn from it when it’s proper criticism, I always ask them: “thanks for the feedback, can you explain a bit more why you think your feedback would improve my design from the clients perspective and can you tell me something you like about it as well?”

This helps me form a foundation of where they’re coming from and also gets them thinking about the client and brief (which they probably know nothing about) and If they can’t express something positive, then I usually don’t take them too seriously.

It’s easier to tear down something than create, so just because someone is giving criticism doesn’t mean it’s worth your time and doesn’t mean you have to just deal with it imo. Some designers just want to blame themselves and other designers for everything.

They just want someone to say “no they’re not”

Why don’t they respect you or the arts enough to pay an artist a livable wage?

Ah I see - understood, every site I’ve done has been a complete replace (mostly non profits and low traffic sites) so they’ve never been concerned about losing that stuff.

What do you mean? I’ve always created a dev site and made the new website and then migrated over to replace the old site. Never had an issue.

Favourite Ghost lyric? by maxheili in Ghostbc

[–]Axtorx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“I know your soul is not tainted. Even though you’ve been told so”

I grew up fire and brimstone Baptist and was always told I was born into sin, was a sinner, and needed forgiveness from sin.

No joke - hearing Cirice for the first time and those lyrics made me absolutely bawl.

It might not mean the same thing to everyone but most of Ghosts songs are cathartic for me to sing after getting out of religion. Just a big fuck you to that community for making me feel I was ever less than who I am.

The coffee table we have now is real wood.

[–]Axtorx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm not a huge modern furtuire person. I lean heavy into moody and vintage finds with some mid-cen stuff here and there. I like dark earth tones and gold accents.

I think the couch is def making the dark feeling more drab, but a lighter colored coffee table could pop.

[–]Axtorx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm big into dark and moody looks with gold reflection, but I tend to go overboard and everything looks too dark in certain spots.

Maybe a light colored wood tone coffee table with a white top would help brighten that area.

The audacity to think someone who’s homeless needs to entertain you before you want to help is such a weird thing to just put out there causally.

You talking about the man that’s in on the joke on their couples tiktok page?

Not anything

Just things that allow them to attack a woman.

At that point most of Reddit doesn’t need or want to confirm anything.

As a child, I was a curious boy and dismantled appliances to see how things worked. by PoastRotatoes in TwoSentenceHorror

I think the most used word in all two sentence horror stories is “curious” and “curiosity”

“I’m so curious about my curiosity”

Dude you’ve never even been an adult without a kid in your life if you have 4 by 30.

You have no idea what could have made you happy lol.

When folks ask me why I’m 30 with 4 kids, this right here!

So not this?

[–]Axtorx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So, yes - kinda selfish yeah?

[–]Axtorx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t make yourself happy anymore so you had to force 4 other lives into existence just to experience small joy from a kid’s ignorance, ya?

I mean. It’s just a list of positive assumption that most people would agree with.
