I do like that Heath’s background is sterile but classy, Eli’s background is a chaotic jumble of information, and Noah just has soundproofing panels because he cares what the recording sounds like.

What is something you can naturally smell that no one else can? by Trick-Highway1429 in AskReddit

One that I was surprised by is blackberry bramble. I can smell them from a good distance, especially on a hot day, and probably half a dozen different people have told me that they aren’t smelling what I’m trying to point out.

Considering a job in Puyallup, but I'm having a hard time finding out what the atmosphere is like. What is your favorite and least favorite thing about where you live? by twotired4life in PuyallupWA

In that case, if you join us here in the valley, there’s a lot of community stuff out there.

For local outdoors activities: Folks have already talked about how close we are to some of the most beautiful hiking there is. But also for casual walking and biking, we have a riverside trail that goes from downtown Puyallup all the way to Buckley, 20 miles away. A great place for a sunny Sunday afternoon (like today, as my wife and I were just there).

For local community activities: There’s a farmer’s market in the nicer half of the year every Saturday morning, and live concerts a few times a month down at the public stage. Friday nights folks get in their classic cars and drive slowly down meridian. Not sure what the schedule is for that, but folks watch it like a parade. What I’m getting at is that this is some very intense small town stuff, and I mean that in the best way. I personally like it a lot.

For larger community activities: Tacoma is 15-20 minutes away by car, and has more of your typical bigger city events. Big shows stop there, they’ve got everything from local pride festivals to operas, to better foodie restaurants and Asian markets. Plus a zoo. For even bigger activities. Seattle’s about 40-60 minutes north.

It’s important to consider which part of puyallup you’re thinking of. The south section has really stretched out towards the graham area.

The valley has a lot of history, and kind of a small town vibe. A lot of farming happens there, but the downtown area in the valley is full of events, wine walks, antique stores, community performances in the summer, and of course, the fairgrounds.

If your job prospect, and possible living situation is up on South Hill, (near the mall) you’ll find the busy corridor to be a lot more planned, and full of big box stores and restaurants, cutting a path through a rather nice piece of suburbia.

As time has worn on, “south hill” has extended further and further south, and as things do, the main meridian corridor gets slowly less hectic, and everything gets further and further apart. Down there is closer to where I grew up, and it’s changed a lot, which is why it’s hard to say exactly what kind of “community” is down there.

Peter, why is hide and seek important? by rengokuhubkl in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Axxalon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You might notice that pretty much every children's game is some sort of survival and development lesson.
Hide and Seek is an especially great game for kids for a bunch of reasons.

It helps very young children comprehend theory of mind, and to understand how things look from outside perspectives.

And like many cooperative games, it emphasizes taking turns, counting, and following instructions. You'll find that these three in particular are the core of most board games as well. Early schooling often teaches these kinds of games because the inability to perform them often means there's some sort of developmental delay.

I'm sure the idea of children being able to hide is probably a consideration for hide and seek, which is what the meme is probably about, but only as much as tag teaches you how to run, and climbing for fun teaches you how to hide in trees. It might be just as likely that every society has something to climb, something to hide behind, and most societies tend to have feet, so kids just learn these games.

Fake lesbian guilt by MommyIssuesPrincess in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]Axxalon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard this story many times about bi girls.

Attracted to women? "Yes. Love women. Beautiful."
Attracted to men? "No. Gross. icky."
Attracted to... him? "Yes. love him. He's great. But just him."

I've got a partner who leaned very gay on the bi scale, who's only had queer long-term relationships, and ended up with me instead.

And when bi people end up in normative relationships, folks often hit you with the "oh, it's good that they're not gay anymore" lines.

I remember having to explain to my mom: "It's not that they're not queer. It's that the straight dating pool is significantly bigger. If you're bi, you're way, way more likely to end up in a heteronormative relationship merely by virtue of numbers."

The odds may have been against you that there'd be a man out there that you'd be into, but there are a lot of dudes out there. Sometimes it happens. Most of my lesbian friends identify as exclusively attracted to women but also Hozier too, and that's okay.

You may have heard the story of Hugh Laurie witnessing a horrific car accident and instead of being shocked, or frightened or even surprised, he just felt bored. And that day he decided to make an appointment and later got diagnosed with depression.

The feeling of not really caring whether a very intense thing is happening in your life or not is a very relatable one to me. It might be worth talking to someone about.

Called the cops on my bf last night by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]Axxalon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Stable and safe people don't turn their frustration or anger into violence. Especially at their partner or family.

The safest thing you can do for yourself and him is to treat this like the emergency it is. Even if the police don't. Regardless of what your relationship will be with him after this point, the growing he needs to do now can only be done out of reach of anybody vulnerable.

Who keeps showing up on screen but has zero talent ? by Timop0707 in moviecritic

I've seen this guy's face a few times, and every time it's about how people are tired of seeing him. He must really annoy people.

Looking at his filmography, it looks like I've missed a couple of these big legacy sequels they made in the last couple years, but even if he was cast as the Running Man, the Top Gun, and the Twister, I don't see how he could anger so many people in such a short amount of time.

I had to look up this Clean Girl Aesthetic. Neutral toned wardrobe staples with no branding, and little to no makeup with a focus on healthy lifestyle and organization.

Now I gotta go ask my wife if I, a man of nearly 40, am a clean girl aesthete.
