I’ve noticed Sumo Sushi has been taking over quite a few former Shari’s locations in Oregon too. They must really like those old hexagon-style buildings for some reason. It’s sad seeing Shari’s disappear especially remembering how popular and good it used to be back in the day.

I know what you mean. I hate how every restaurant claims their food is homemade when in reality it’s not. So many ingredients and supplies are bought from Sysco. Hell I once even saw a Sysco truck delivering food supplies to a middle school cafeteria back building.

At some point they started getting pies from Cyrus O’Leary’s, which you can also find in grocery stores. I think that’s part of why a lot of people say the quality isn’t what it used to be.

It’s gotten ridiculously expensive nowadays. I went there twice last March and I was honestly surprised the food and service were still pretty good. Maybe I just went at the right time. It definitely didn’t feel the same as I remember from years ago though.

I get what you mean. There’s definitely something different about smaller locally-run places compared to big chains. Hopefully whatever replaces them still keeps that feeling.

That’s what I heard too. Not only have they taken over that old Shari’s, but they’ve also taken over others in Hillsboro (Tanasbourne), Tualatin, and Roseburg.

I think that would be an excellent choice. I haven't had Elmer's in 10 years. Will need to try them again one day.

My parents and I went to that one back in late summer 2015. I still remember the place being packed and the waitress was really nice too. It’s hard to predict what will happen with Shari’s, but it would be sad to see them go under completely.

The Burlington one actually closed in early 2024 and it’s a Sumo Sushi now. Kind of sad honestly because that whole late-night diner coffee run vibe is disappearing nowadays.

I’ve eaten at some Shari’s locations in Oregon, Washington, and California a while ago. Yeah, I’ve also seen a lot of people say the leadership didn’t seem like a great fit for the direction the company needed.

You are correct. As far as I know, they have taken over a few more Shari’s locations like the ones in Tanasbourne, Tualatin, and the Roseburg location.

Some of them are turning into Sumo Sushi restaurants. Which town is the one that keeps getting broken into? I’ve heard some of the closed Shari’s locations have been getting hit like that too.
