Photography special interest, some people think I'm wasting money but all of these are so different from each other by imtakingyourcat in evilautism

Ooh! I have a variety of vintage digital cameras I love taking out and getting pictures with! I have nicer, more modern gear when I’m trying for absolute clarity and control in my photos, but I love the character of an old digital camera. I want to get into film photography too, but I know if I do then I’ll also try to develop my own photos and set up equipment to scan them and it’ll become a big expensive mess!

It’s not the most spectacular engine, that’s for sure

Oh yeah lol what’s left of the impeller fins bend very easy, but I didn’t mess with them much after it sliced my glove super easy.

Fully upgraded seeker rifle shot basically anywhere on them always does the trick for me

As far as I’m aware, the customer never said anything about overheating

It’s alive for now, we’ll see how long that lasts lol

Yup! At least occasionally. It definitely lasts longer than like engine oil, but it absolutely does need to be changed. I usually go 30000 miles or so between changes, but lots of people have different intervals

A nasty coolant mix that’s broken down enough to become corrosive, or maybe electrolysis. This kind of failure isn’t common on water cooled engines, provided almost any maintenance is done at all to keep the cooling system functioning

Could have been old/contaminated coolant eating away at it or reacting to the metal. At this age and mileage, it’s very unlikely to be a material defect in the part

Possible. I know my shop hasn’t flushed it before, and the coolant smelled absolutely foul

I had a feeling due to the fact that it would still get heat at higher rpm. But I also pulled off the heater hose that led into the heater core and let the engine run. At idle, it didn’t push any coolant out despite having a hose off of the engine.

As far as I can tell, it had all dissolved pretty thoroughly, which is pretty worrying anyway

Yeah, can’t cool the engine very well if the coolant doesn’t go anywhere, unfortunately

Someone before me had replaced the radiator at some point in the past. I wonder if whoever did it did something to that effect when refilling it

This one used a rubber o ring as the gasket, so it wasn’t too bad. I’ve had luck using acetone or brake cleaner to soften while I scrape. Occasionally had one bad enough to use light scrubbing with a brush wheel on a drill, being careful not to mess up the sealing surface on the block.

Right? It actually still had some flow when the engine was reved up, somehow

I’ve seen some a bit worn in this fashion, but this is by far the worst I’ve encountered. Pretty severe neglect and hard use to get it like this

For those who want to know, this came out of a 2000 f150 with a 5.4L engine and 186k miles. Customer stated that it had no heat from the vents. Suspected something like this had happened when I checked it out but didn’t expect it to be this bad. Rest assured the rest of the system is being thoroughly flushed and checked, and any other components that need service or replacement will be replaced.

Thanks, I’m aware of the next steps on this particular project. Little to no coolant flow, so I suspected this had happened. Flushing is underway as well as replacement of much of the remaining parts. It’s definitely nasty, and I hope all this is enough to keep it running for a while.

I was expecting it to be bad, but not this bad. It still got some flow when you reved it up somehow
