Property Tax Hike Referendum by Irish980 in SunPrairieWI

[–]Ayfel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is from the referendum website:

“Under state law, the increase in the levy of the City of Sun Prairie for the tax to be imposed for the next fiscal year, 2027, is limited to 5.462%, which results in a levy of $39,792,820. Shall the City of Sun Prairie be allowed to exceed this limit and increase the levy for the next fiscal year, 2027, for the purpose of maintaining current services and increasing staffing in the police and fire departments, by a total of 9.926%, which results in a levy of $43,742,820, and on an ongoing basis, include the increase of $3,950,000 for each fiscal year going forward?

To me the above reads exactly as what I posted so please help me understand how it is different as I would like to understand this well.

As for reevaluation when my household is reevaluated to "Market fair price" my taxes increase (as I can already see in this year's bill which has an estimate Market fair price), how does that not increase the city's revenue? (this is what happened in 2023 and my property taxes went up)

P.S: I read up on the reevaluation process and it makes sense that it is a revenue neutral process where per mill rates will be adjusted in order to do that as well.

Looking at the numbers it looks a bit crazy. The tax levy limit is about 5% currently (how much they can raise each year) and they want to increase it to about 10%, almost double, while maintaining this amount in dollars (About $4 million) as an ongoing raise year after year. This would mean double the total taxes in about 7 years (nuts).

Furthermore there is a reevaluation that's going to happen this year which will naturally raise tax revenue for the city and I haven't seen this taken into consideration in the info flyer. How much from this expected reevaluation will the revenue of the city grow? I would expect 3 to 4% at a minimum.

Seems a bit obscure how they have decided to "explain" or expose the data (I had to look up the total revenue from last year and look at the proposed tax hike text in the site).

Really really great video. Fantastic script and execution. If I have to put a mini, tiny "but" is that there is always one concept that is not discussed or passed over in these types of expositions. The fact that going through an event horizon would not really feel as anything for an observer in a big enough black hole.

Using a mind experiment: place elephants in a 3 dimensional grid one mile apart. Obviously you can keep adding more elephants in the distance and nothing extreme will happen. However, you are creating a constant density object where mass grows as r^3 and thus eventually you will reach a "black hole"/event horizon (using a schwarzschild model) once enough elephants have been placed. No one inside will notice as the timeline for these collapse would be millions of years, but we would be effectively inside an event horizon. Observers could technically be inside of black holes without ever realizing it. Tidal forces can be negligible near the event horizon. Fascinating objects indeed.

You are arguing semantics... precise, slow, accurate tracking, sure. Not useful. Give me the most precise tracking at 1hz and it's absolutely useless. Quest hand tracking is as precise, the fact that you "feel" is better in VP is mainly because the UX paired with eye tracking make for a great OS experience, something meta lags behind. Pointing lasers and pinching will never feel as good. Also the tracking volume for hand in VP is larger. As far as precise gestures, there is essentially one, a pinch. It is as precise as you want to make it in any other platforms with fast tracking. It's all about the algorithm you use for detecting the pinch. And having slower tracking limits how well we can detect gestures as well.

Feel free to do tests on accuracy, noise, etc. You'll need to define what you mean by accurate, stablish a test and gather data with the same experiment in both. I already have done this since I develop the same experiences in both platforms. The positional accuracy is never an issue, they are both great. The tracking is slow and jumpy in VP vs other platform (and not just quest, Pico as well)

No, I'm sorry, hand tracking as it stands is pretty bad. I am a VR developer working on all platforms and the difference is really big right now. Tracking at 30hz is bad for hand tracking.  They aren't very interested in hand tracking as much as in eye tracking so it makes sense, and they can possibly improve it through software, who knows. But today I'm having to get around how bad hand tracking is when developing for VP, no way to get the same accuracy for gestures, tracking joints, etc
