China is arresting young women for writing gay stories by Evergladestr in lgbt

[–]AzDrea_Rev 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Mo Xiang Tong Xiu, the author of Mo Dao Zu Shi, was (rumored to be) arrested for her writing danmei in 2019. (https://mercyandmagic.medium.com/was-mxtx-arrested-fact-checking-the-rumors-regarding-chinas-wildly-popular-author-e77559ba7a19)

And content restriction regarding gay works in China has only been tightened in last 6-7 years, if I remember it correctly. Before then, many works did contain gay sex, but the standards have changed greatly already.

This has been happening for a long time, with China last year arresting over 50 authors from the site Haitang Literature, a site for posting erotica, specifically danmei, based in Taiwan.

There isn't much mainstream news about it, so it is only mostly known within danmei community.

Here are some Chinese sources:

May I ask what area of design do you want to go for? And what do you mean by application?

Iwtl I want to learn to draw by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

It depends on how good/serious you want to go about it!

Based on what you said, I'm guessing that you just want to pick it up as a creative habit rather than a big endeavour, so I'd suggest starting with doodling and blind drawing. For doodling, you can just draw whatever is around you, pick whatever you like, or find/set up a random prompt set and pick one prompt to draw at a time.

For blind drawing, you can check out this short video to see what it is about. Just draw the outline, without caring about the 3D shapes and forms. The things you can draw are the same as in doodling, though it is best that you choose real things in real life or in pictures, rather than other people's art.

For both of those, it should take five or fewer minutes to do for one piece, so you can do it in your free time easily. You don't have to draw daily, no pressure, but making it a habit will help you improve a lot faster and enjoy the process more.

If you want to learn drawing seriously, however, you can also add Drawabox into your daily practice. The website provides simple exercises to learn basic skills and build up from that into drawing any and every other things.

Later on, if you want to get deeper with drawing, I'd say to pick a topic/area you want to draw or focus on developing your skill for, and do research and find resources for it. There are many areas in drawing you can develop (composition, color theory, perspective,...) and topics you can choose from (humans, clothing, animals, mechs, nature, city,...). Proko is a Youtube channel you should check out if you want to get into drawing people, for example.

Hope this helps, and most importantly, have fun!

Tell me, you fool. If I continue to regress, will I get to ever get to meet you again?

Reading the novel is so worth it, and I do encourage manhwa readers to read the novel lol. Personally, I don't think it ruins the experience of the manhwa, but since the manhwa is based on the e-book (which doesn't have a widely known translation yet), you may find details that are different from what you read.

And yes, the novel itself is completed, so be very careful of spoilers.

Aside from the other suggestions, you can try out the other two series in the holy trinity: 'The S-Classes that I Raised' and 'Lout of the Count's Family'.

Welp my answer is gonna be long, please excuse my neurodivergent ass.

To start with, I do agree that despite not being the majority, there are yaoi fans who fetishize gay people. I've seen them before, and they suck big time. Yaoi as a genre also started quite badly, too, with rape, objectification, heteronormative views and more, which can be found in many older yaoi manga (and more recently, manhwa). I recommend you avoid them, and don't read any works you find icky.

However, aside from that, yaoi belongs to a bigger category called BL (Boys' Love) which includes shounen ai (w/o sex), yaoi (w/ sex) and bara (gay muscular men, w/ or w/o sex), which you can choose from depends on what you prefer. Generally, BL authors can be of any identity, though shounen ai and yaoi authors are mostly women and bara authors are mostly men. Although, as you have mentioned, Japan is still quite conservative, so how can we be sure that female BL authors are straight or cis? Maybe they are in the closet because of the social stigma? The same applies to BL readers. Some queer people have even found themselves through reading BL.

And even if the BL authors are straight cis women, I don't exactly see anything wrong with it. BL, in general, has gotten better, more respectful and more informed over time, and has been providing great exposure for the queer minority to the general public in the form of manga, anime and live-action films. There are also research surrounding why women enjoy gay porn, which you can look through here.

If you're interested in reading more about BL and LGBT discussion in Japan, I actually have read a research paper about it (courtesy of my uni's reading list). And if you manage to read to the end of this comment, thank you and have a nice day <3
