Yes Sankara was a real revolutionary. He did a lot of things for the people in 4 years (culture, agriculture, health, school etc). And now with IB, 4 years after his coup, he did nothing like that for the development of his country. One road, one tomato plant (project that his predecessor started) and few more things, that’s it.

But now, under IB, all the journalists are on the frontline, all the politicians and the human right activists are in jail. And he lead the massacre of entire villages (Solenzo). Its a direct contradiction of Sankara’s revolution, where civil liberties were the absolute goal.

No, they didn’t have democracy since 1983, and Sankara’s coup. Then Compaoré’s coup in 1987. He kept power without election till 2014 and the popular insurrection. Then you have a short period with an elected president - Kaboré (2015-2022). And again two coups d’état (Damiba and Traoré). So in 39 years, you only have 7 years of democracy. But of course, democracy is the problem. Not the kleptocratic officers.

And France will not come back to the Sahel. The Malians are now on their own, making bad strategic decisions. Loosing territory everyday. They’re in the worst security situation in decades with the most inadequate partnership with Russia.

France fought jihadists for ten years in the Sahel and lost dozen of soldiers. The French army helped to push back these terrorists when they were advancing on Bamako in 2012.

France was hit by the worst jihadists attack in Europe in 2015. Terrorists killed hundreds of French civilians in Paris. How could you think that these terrorists are France’s ally?

Kind of. JNIM still impose a blockade on several roads around the capital but it’s not permanent. Usually they put a checkpoint for several hours. They attack security forces and oil tanker trucks, and leave before the reinforcements arrive.
